My chinchillas has been on 2 different antibiotics since Friday. As you can all guess he has stopped eating/drinking and I've been force feeding CC. I was just curious if anyone had any clue as to why my vet thought it necessary to administer two antibiotics. My chin is on 0.05mL of Baytril and 0.25mL of SMZ (both twice daily) for 14 days.
I took him in because for a few days he was making a horrible gagging noise (not like a cough). The vets diagnosis was a possible infection in his throat, most likely due to a scrape. He also said his lungs sounded clear but the x-ray showed the beginnings of a URI.
I let my vet know that sometime Sunday my chin had stopped eating/drinking. He told me to only give the Baytril once a day and if he didn't start eating/drinking again by Friday to stop the Baytril and continue with the SMZ. I have not heard him gagging at all over the last 24 hours, so it's working for that...
What do you guys think?
