Today I learned an important lesson about fitted liners..

Yeah, I'm going to be changing out the liners shortly because these ones have way too much excess, and those ones will be sewn together so that I don't have to worry about it. I keep thinking the same thing Halfstache does- I'm fearful I'll come home and find she's either suffocated or had a...

Today I learned an important lesson about fitted liners..

This evening(a few minutes ago) I walked over to Nymira's cage to see if she was awake. I looked all around the two level Ferret Nation, and was shocked to find that I couldn't find her. Initial panic was that she had escaped somehow and was now trapped somewhere in the apartment, or chewing on...

    Ferret Nation Shelf Covers?

Hey everyone Quick question, I was on Ferret.com looking for scatterguards for my FN cage and saw that they sell covers for the shelves and pans that are made out of polyester. Are these safe for chins? Mine hasn't chewed much of the fleece in her cage but she definitely chews the bars so...

Does your chin use a hammock?

Nymira is normally sleeping in hers, it's actually the only spot I've seen her sleep!

FN still sold at Petsmart in Canada?

I haven't seen any at Petsmart lately, but you should know it's usually a better deal to order online. I got mine at ferret.com for about $170 before shipping and tax, compared to $300something at the pet stores around here(Halifax). Shipping is going to kill you but if you get the cage on sale...

I can't tell if Nymira hates it, loves it, or is just bored.

It's not really the walls I'm concerned with, it's moreso the spaces and wiring in here. The computer, TV, gaming consoles, and mini fridge all have cables and spaces, and there's a large wire mesh shelf she could get stuck in. Chinproofing this room would require a whole remodel, so it's much...

I can't tell if Nymira hates it, loves it, or is just bored.

Yeah, I had her out in the bathroom earlier. As much as I'd love to let her out whenever, the room she's kept in is covered with wires and definitely not chin-safe. So I have to roll her to the bathroom for playtime. Is there any way to stop her from chewing the bars? I'm worried she'll hurt her...

    Just got my first Chin!

http://www.amazon.com/Super-Pet-Chinchilla-12-Inch-Exercise/dp/B0006IK0PQ <- For the record I meant these kinds of wheels- the spot in the middle doesn't come out much if at all, but I can see why they'd break at times.

Found this little gem at the Dollar store.

Not sure if it's widely available, but I found this awesome little gadget for $2 at the Dollarama near me. Tinypic(Mini-Vacuum) It basically plugs in via usb(those of you with iphones have the wall adapters!), and sucks up small things- perfect for cleaning poop out of cages with fleece or...

I can't tell if Nymira hates it, loves it, or is just bored.

Hey guys. I just got Nymira yesterday from someone online(she'd started fighting for dominance with her mom), and she seems to be adjusting well. When I came home tonight from work, I expected her to be hiding in the furthest back corner of her cage. Instead, she came running right up to the...

    Just got my first Chin!

True. I'll continue to save, then. Unfortunately the Chinspin is cheap- but the shipping isn't. I wonder if I can't find a reseller nearby

    Just got my first Chin!

Thanks guys! Yeah she gave up on trying to escape, right now she's rolling around with one of her chew blocks. She's so cute! I've heard a lot of good things about the chinspin, and I've been debating getting one for her since right now she doesn't have a wheel and is running laps around the...

    Just got my first Chin!

I finally got her! 10 months old, still no name. Adopted her from someone online, and she's quite adventurous! She's currently running around her Ferret Nation trying to explore. Question though. She keeps trying to squeeze her face through the bars and escape. Is this normal? Will she fit? I...

I tiled my Ferret Nation today :)

I've got ceramic tile now, for tiling my cage as well. Are your levels completely sealed off from each other? Or did you leave the holes there so the chins could explore? How do you keep pee from going between the tile? Thanks

    Tiling FN182

Yeah, I ended up buying 11 12x12 tiles, and realize there's a bit of overlay between them. I'm going to score and cut them to make them fit perfectly. The cardboard base seems like a wonderful idea.. I should look into that. I wonder, even if glue would be too strong of a chemical smell for the...

    Tiling FN182

I love how many silly questions I have... So I've been measuring up for tiling my FN cage, since I can't afford basspans. Basically, I've measured the floors to be 34.5x22.5 inches, which is about 5.39 square feet of tile. In order to accomplish this I'd have to get 21.5 tiles(6x6), but I...

    Ramps?

If I get rid of the ramp how can I ensure that there is enough space for the Chin to jump between the two floors without risk of injury? Also, how wide do shelves have to be? I can get kiln-dried pine cut to length but I'm not sure if getting it 4" wide or 6" would be better.

    Ferret Nation Model 182

I will be making shelves for my Chinchilla out wood and eventually tile, so I don't really need the plastic shelves. As far as tracking my numbers never worked.. and one of the squares where the pegs for the top layer insert was bent. I fixed it myself, but I had to hammer it out and then hammer...

    Ramps?

Hey guys, I just built my FN182 and I'm noticing everyone is saying to generally remove the ramps. Why? Is it not safe to leave a ramp from the first level to the second, if it's covered in the fleece cover? If I take it out, how will my Chin go between levels? Thanks guys. :)

    Ferret Nation Model 182

Just got my 182 this morning.. I'm a little disappointed because the box was in awful condition, and the top pan is broken slightly- I can't use it, it won't fit now and there's a sharp edge I'd worry about my chin cutting himself on. All and all ferret.com shipping was fast but make sure you...
