for those of you who breed whether it is large scale or small scale what do you feel you specialize in color wise?? and do you feel it is what you are well known for??? If not what do you think you are well known for even if it is not what you consider your speciality..

the girls and I have had a ton of people looking for chins lately.Sadly since we cut down our herd 2 years ago we just can not compete with the demand we seem to have..Now we almost always having a waiting list for colors and offspring form particular pairs..So it got us thinking..

back when we started I thought our speciality was whites, Pink whites, white mosiacs, ebony white mosaics , tan/whites, beige white mosiacs.. We really never got into white sapphires, or white violets..Just a few here and there..

with that being said we have always show about 90% of our offspring to get the feedback etc.. As my biggest fear is being barn blind and shows are a great way to learn where you are going with your breeding..

Well so much for what I thought..According to our customer feedback and show results..here is what we have found and it does differ for us because we all have our own lines..

ME- a few mosaics,a few pink whites, mainly sapphires and violets..
Tiffani- Standards, eb/whites
Maggi- Beiges and tans an occasional eb
Taylor- ebonies
Ashlei - really has grown out of chins sad to say and no longer has her line going..

I would of never thought these would be our results..Weird..

So I am interested to see what everyone else is doing and known for..

Id like to focus on beige (in all forms). I absolutly LOVE the color! However, It has been taking some time to aquire some nice beiges for my line, so, so far my nicest chins born have been Standards. Which by the way is ok with me! My husband on the other hand is just starting a Black line, so that will be somthing new as well.

We also like to show most of the animals born here, keeps us focused on the quality of the animals bred more so than the color of the animals that we breed. I do hope that someday when someone is asked about beiges they will say "Oh Nicole from Chinchillas By Design has some really nice beiges, give her a call!" For now, I will have to wait untill I earn that reputation. I am having a ton of fun, it has been alot more exciting than I would have imagined when I started a year and a half ago!

You lean towards colors you like
I am focusing on sapphires and Black velvets, my mom has her eb lines and is doing tans (well I do it but they are her chins ;) ) I have other colors that do very well at shows (brown velvet for example) but they are not my focus.

My favorite color and the color I've shown the most of is Ebony. I have always loved it, and have been blessed with some nice ones of late. There are other colors that interest me, but given my very limited herd size I am trying very hard to discipline myself and NOT expand into other colors. I have about half standards & half ebs in my herd, and the standards I showed last year did well but I showed more ebs than standards. I, too, would love for others to be able to say "Check with Wendy" when someone asks where to go for nice ebs. That is a great goal!:)

Standards ,standards and more standards. 85% of our herd are standards. We have some beige, white and black. You just can't get any better than a top of the line standard. Standards are what we started with 40 years ago and we have always tried to work to better them.

I think it's nice to hear someone loving the standard look!!! So many people have their special lines and such, which don't get me wrong are all beautiful, but I really do appreciate a blocky dense furred standard. They may not be the prettiest (next to all the fancy lines:winkers:) but I just think they are classic <3

At the moment, our focus is blacks, beiges (including tov and tans), and standards. We have some ebony and white, but it's not our main focus. I really wanted to get involved with blacks because I just love them! I never really wanted to get into beiges, because at first, I honestly didn't like the color as much. After getting our first beige from the Shoots, I came to love beiges just as much, and we have more beiges than blacks in our herd now. Our first MCBA award was for a beige we bred here!

Sapphires. I have two whites in my herd (one a white sapphire, the other an S/C) that I'm waiting to see kits out of, but have a feeling I'll be taking them both out of breeding next cull. Everything else here is either Pure standard, sapphire, or standard S/C and I'll likely keep it that way, though I've been fantasizing about blacks.

I'd like to someday be as associated with sapphires as Shelli is with violets. =)

I specialise in pure recessive charcoals and derivatives (pastel, charblack, charbrown). :)

well, I plain to foucs mainly on violets, that being said, the majority of my herd is and will be standards and standard vc carries.
I've been building my standard line, and just recently put my violet line in breeding.
So for the past year or so, I've only had standards born. :)
With the exception of my Pink White that won CSC at Nationals a couple years back. He passed away this past year, so I'm holding on to his two Tan kits to show, and will be keeping one of them.
But I'm working now on aquiring VC Standards that are NOT related to the Violets I have hear.

I only have about 20 chins, so i've been culling hard, and finally feel my standards are going in the right direction to start looking towards the violets.

I still am building my herd, but I prefer Black velvets, mosaics, and ebs. No offense to anyone but I really am just not that crazy about beiges (except for tov beiges) or sapphires at the moment but wouldn't say never.

My herd focus is on standards and beiges... and those are the only colors I breed and breed for. I may expand to BV's eventually but for now, I want to make sure I am producing enough nice good-veiled standards first.

My main focus has been violet wraps and other violet crosses. That being said I have to keep my eb lines looking very nice to get nice violet wraps. I seem to have been doing pretty well at show in the eb area and am hoping to have some nice violet wraps show well this show season! *Fingers Crossed*

I want to focus on pretty much just ebonies. I've been good and haven't bought anything but standards, ebs and whites so far and will try and stick to just those three.
