What is the oldest chinchilla you have had produce offspring? I have a 16 yr old female and a 13 yr old male. I would love to let them live together to live out their retirement, but will not do this unless I am sure that she is too old for her to get pregnant. I would get the male fixed, but am weary due to his age. I am happy to leave them apart, but just wanted to throw the question out there since I have no idea what fertility ages are in chins.

She probably won't be able to get pregnant. The oldest female that has had babies for me is 14, but that doesn't mean that a chin at 16 may not get pregnant. If she is that old, she probably won't do very well with a pregnancy. It would be best to keep her separated just in case.

Not to old to be possible. I had a female give me her last babies when she was 18 and had a 20 year old male that had babies before I pulled him.
