I know purified water is good for chins, but what about spring water? We drink Ice Mountain brand so it would be easy if I could just give him that. Is there anything bad for chins in it?

I can't say for sure, but whatever water you buy needs to be purified by reverse osmosis. It should say on the bottle/container if it is. I don't know if spring water is the same as drinking water? That's what I used for a long time.

You can also use the PUR pitcher for chin's water..

Most bottled water is plain old tap water from cities all over the country. (if you get a chance, watch the documentary "Tapped")

Ice Mountain gets its water from wells or municipal water sources, ie - tap water. Some bottling companies filter with reverse osmosis, but not all, so unless it says it on the bottle, assume that is is not safe for chins.

So, what are the effects (long or short term) on giving chins tap water?

The acceptable levels of certain contaminants like giardia cysts in municipal water supplies are safe for humans but the same water could cause a giardia infection in a chin.

I checked the Ice Mountain filtration data. It is filtered at better than 2 nm, so it should be safe. Most giardia spores are 7-10 nm.
