While I knew kits were crazy little beings from the time they are born, I never expected them to be this crazy. We had our first kit born in the rescue yesterday morning (63g male) to a female who was surrendered just under over a month ago. While I've taken in older kits before, this is the first newborn I have ever dealt with. HE'S EVERYWHERE. It amazes me just how active they are the day they are born. It's crazy!

How do you guys get your good kit photos? He moves way too quick for me to get any good photos, and when I am holding him for a picture it looks like I'm squeezing him even though I'm not. Here are the "good" photos I have been able to get of him.

The morning he was born.

The evening, the day he was born.

I take a bazillion photos every 2 weeks to get 12 good ones to update the baby page on my site. 90% of them are of furry butts instead of the front and many times there is another chinchilla in mid air over the furry butts. This just gave me an idea, I should do a blooper photo page.

He's cute! No clue how to take pics of kits. I have a three year old that still runs around like she's a kit. :D

Those are great pictures Cathy! I think its a good combination of lighting and the background. Flash helps too, but it tends to wash chins out at times.

If your camera has an "action" setting, use it. Oh, and teamwork is a must. One wrangles the kits and the other takes pictures.

Here are some my dad took when Marika was four weeks old:

And at about three weeks:

We tag teamed. The kits held still for a few seconds, if that. I kept returning them to the fleece for pictures. Out of about 40 pictures we got three good ones. And Marika was the one who held still!

The camera type makes a big Difference. My dad is an armature photographer so his camera is pretty high end.

I so was hoping that it was a female and sorry can't offer any advice for picture taking but he sure is a cutie!

Out of 40 you get 1 - 4 good ones lol! Using a good camera with a fast lense is a factor, I love my canon powershot for chinchilla pics.

My Mom actually got a good picture of one of my kits using her iphone. He was staring at Daddy who was in a cat carrier.

Meeeee tooooo. I really wanted to be able to him the baby with the mama. Welp, he ruined that for the both of us. ;)

While they don't compare with Cathy's skills, they are better! Thanks for the tips!

Many came out a bit too close, but he was interested in sniffing the camera. They show off his adorable nosey really well though. ;)

Looking at those pictures makes me immediately want to leave work and go home and play with my fur babies
