I brought home two new girls last weekend. One of them was a bit lethargic, the breeder I bought her from showed me how she wasn't doing too well and would need extra attention. At first she was interested in some hay, but didn't eat many pellets. Showed a little interest in drinking water, but that stopped within a few days.
She deteriorated... her breathing became labored and I saw some whitish discharge from her nose. I rushed her to an exotic specialist vet this morning. They put her on oxygen and said her that when they tried to take her temp, it was too low to even register. I'm fully aware that I might lose her. :-(
None of my other girls are showing any signs of illness, but I'm watching them all pretty closely. First sign of lethargy in any of them and they go get checked out.
I should have taken her last week. I fear I was too late. :-(

Oh my :( I'm sorry to hear about your girl. I pray she will make a full recovery.

I'm surprised a breeder would knowingly sell someone a sick chin. Hoping she pulls through for you. Did you quarantine her from your others when you brought her home?

I would have to agree why would a breeder sell you a sick chin. No breeder should sell a sick one.

I agree with above. A reputable breeder wont allow a sick chin to leave. I would contact the breeder and inform them as to what is going on.

No reputable breeder would allow a kit to go out to a new home with any known health issues. Go back to the breeder and explain to them what has happened. I sincerely hope your little guy is ok.

Thanks everyone :)

Unfortunately, she did not make it. The vet did everything they could, but said that even if I had gotten her in sooner, the outcome likely would have been the same.
Breeder is letting me pick out another animal of my choosing :)

Thankfully, none of my other girls have shown any sign of illness. I do not think an infectious agent was the culprit here, vet thinks it was something got messed up in her GI flora (she was full of gas) and that made her uncomfortable and stopped eating, and it all went downhill from there.

I wold be leary of getting another chin from the same source. No good breeder let's a chin go to a new home that's not 100% prefect. They would reschedule till the chin is well. Just be cautious

I agree with Dreamlite. I would never, EVER sell an animal that wasn't in 100% good health to the best of my knowledge. I would never hand over an animal I knew was ill and left it up to the new owner to figure it out and pay the bills.
