Hello!
So my cat has cat herpes and since I have to keep my cat quarantined from the others, my chinchilla hasn't gotten a lot of out of cage time...

Does anyone know if chinchillas can catch cat herpes?
I don't want to continue making him stir crazy!

I don't think so, but I would definitely ask your vet to make sure.

For anyone who finds this thread in the future, I asked my vet and they said no, chinchillas can not catch cat herpes! He finally got out of the cage time!

Feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR/Cat herpes type 1) is not noted for jumping to other species. *However it is not uncommon for it to develop into bacterial issues like eye infections, respiratory infections, etc which are passable to both humans and other pets in the household. Please keep the level of sanitization in the home high until the kitty has finished all treatments and been given the all clear. Especially washing your hands and doorknobs/surfaces after handling kitty. FVR can also be carried so you will need to keep a lookout for reoccurring infections and quarantine again if anything bacterial breaks out. :)

Thank you so much! My cat has had no other symptoms and seems almost completely cured so I will keep this in mind.
