A few questions on wood.

Hey guys. I was wondering if White birch wood is okay to prepare for my chin. I was going to get some wood of my crab apple tree, and realized i have a lot of white birch trees. Also what other kinds of common trees are okay? And do i have to boil the wood, or can I just scrub them really good and then bake them. Thanks guys!
