How hard should I scratch my chinchilla??

I have 3 female chins. All 3 of them look forward to their nightly ritual of scratching. I have a very tall cage and they all run up to the top level. Never would I have imagined how these goofy little critters could get into this as much as they do. I'll start under their chin, then they will...

    Intoducing/Boding 3 females

Thank for the advice. I absolutely will not do it. The very last thing I would want is for anything to happen to any of them. I have more than enough resources to house all three I just would like to at least get them into one cage. I have attached a picture of my larger cage. I have it...

    Intoducing/Boding 3 females

Hey gang, been doing a site search and have found out a lot of great info about my question. Just a tiny bit of background. I have two female chins in a HUGE home built cage you could fit a herd of cattle in. I have it separated down the middle and chin on each side. Reason? They both are very...

    Chins and dogs

Lovely Whiskers asked for opinions. We all gave ours. Its no less valid than yours simply because you don't agree with it.

    Chins and dogs

Yeah I know. There is always one to muddy the waters. And that would be me. I have to say I think this as with a lot of things when it comes to Chins needs to be on a case by case basis. I have 3 Pomeranians and two Chins. I let the chins out every night and the nightly ritual for the chin and...

    Leaving chins alone for days

This was a generalization not a statement of fact tunes. It was only meant to say that I love and take care of my chins health as well as anyone else here. In no way am I trying to compete with anyone else. The suggestion that someone hates their Chins because they leave for 3-4 days is crazy...

Are you for real??!! It is better to be thought of as a fool then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

    Leaving chins alone for days

All I have to say to this response is this. First. You live in a very paranoid world. My Chins are the most loved well cared for on the planet. I doubt you would fine two more spoiled. But I do not put their welfare on a pedestal above my own. You have no clue about my cage set up, my Chins...

    Leaving chins alone for days

I'm sorry, Not trying to be insensitive, I just can't agree with these blanket statements that are meant to apply to everyone. Circumstances vary from person to person. I have two Chins. I can't imagine Chinchillas anywhere that get the care and attention that mine do. However, living in Alaska...

    Play time

I have two Chins and they each get out for about 45 minutes every day. In that time they usually run around and play so hard that after 45 minutes to an hour they wear themselves out and go back in their cage all on their own so time wise that is pretty much their limit for being out. Sometimes...

    How To Start Bonding

I have two Chins and one will nip me accidently when she thinks she is getting a treat. I will try to pet her or scratch her and she occasionally thinks that I am giving her a cheerio and she nips me. Its not out of anything other than she made a mistake. Chins eyesight is funny in that they...

Seeking cage recommendations for largest possible within specific dimensions

This is my cage that I built myself. Using smaller scale pieces you could probably get really close to your dimensions. The cage material is shelving from Home Depot and you can get it in numerous sizes and lengths.

I don't think my chins will ever love me :(

I think its possible we expect to much. I have two Chins. IMO they are very social but we are talking Chins here so just what does that mean? They both come up on my lap and will let me pet them when they are out for play time. One is just like a little dog. She LOVES it when I rub her belly and...

New chin is too smart and quick for me

I think the reason he is hard to catch in the bathroom is because he doesn't know what he is suppose to do. There is nowhere for him to go and he is just a little stressed because his cage isn't there and he can't go into it and his cage is his safety net. Given the opportunity he would almost...

New chin is too smart and quick for me

That is GREAT news! The fact that he went in while you were adjusting his shelves speaks volumes about how much he like his cage now. He loves it and now he feels secure there. Great job for hanging in there!

Chinchillas prefer being in their cage?!

My chins LOVE their cage. It is huge and lots of stuff for them to hide in and chew on. They also LOVE playtime and that happens every evening. They both come out for 30-45 minutes have a ball running and bouncing around and when they get tired they go back in their cage on their own. All I have...

    Laying down?

I have one chin that lays like this all the time. The first time she did it my heart skipped a beat because I thought she was dead. I was very relieved when she popped up when I came closer to the cage. This same chin will run herself ragged when out for playtime. She always goes back in her...

    Chinchilla Question

I think Chinchilla's once they get used to their cage consider it their safety net. They get used to it and they take a while to adjust when there is a major change. A new cage is a major change and it will take a while for him to adjust. One thing I did that really helped was when I would walk...
