    Diarrhea

I agree with Kansas City Chins that you should do the watery handfeeding to replenish fluids. Same as with a human, when there is diarrhea you lose fluids, and hydration is very important. I personally, would also stop the Reglan.

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

Max and Giggy had their last dose of Panacur last night. Max's poo is still SLIGHTLY smelly, but definitely not as odoriferous as it was before. This most recent round they were on it for 7 days, and the first round was 3 days (there were 4 days between the end of round 1, and the start of...

    Post-surgery Question

I would mark the water line on her bottle with a piece of tape so you can see if the level goes down at all. Be careful when you're syringing water, because chins can aspirate easily. If you're still feeding her critical Care, she might not drink much on her own since she'll be getting her...

    Skylar's xray

I usually give gas drops 1mL at a time: 1 mL before and 1mL after a handfeeding, since they tend to take in air when being syringe fed. Yesterday I came home from work and Giggy hadn't pood all day but he had eaten, so I gave him 1 mL of gas drops, then waited to see what happened. Couple...

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

I spoke with the vet yesterday and we decided to stay with the Panacur. The reasoning being that the giardia did respond to the Panacur (Max's poo stopped smelling by Sunday morning, after 2 doses). With Giggy, it's impossible to tell what's going on since he's never shown symptoms. They are...

    Baytril - Woe is me..

I would be very concerned if there hadn't been poo in two days. In my experience, it takes about 10-12 hours for food to completely pass through. Example: When Max first stopped eating and pooing I gave him some CC. When we were at the vet about 10 hours later, he did some great looking poos...

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

The vet still hasn't called me back, but when they do I'll ask about flagyl. I feed hay from American Pet Diner. Thank you, Sandi! I hope Benny gets better soon too <3 Thanks, for the information, Amanda! ___________ Update: Last night I weighed their food bowls. Overnight Giggy ate 15...

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

I'm so exhausted, I don't even know where to begin. I began a full offensive against the giardia last Friday night (9/13), for both Max and Giggy. They both received their first dose of Panacur (they were prescribed .4 mL every 24 hours for 3 days). I removed all the wood from their cages...

    Baytril - Woe is me..

Hi Amanda, one of my little guys was just on a 10 day course of oral Baytril. He was already not eating, so I was handfeeding anyway. I found it helpful to burrito him, give him the Baytril, then give him the CC (mixed with a probiotic) to wash the taste down. He actually ended up eating on...

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

Thanks, Peggy! I will start his treatment. I was thinking of taking all the wood out of his cage during treatment, and then replacing it with new stuff when it's over. He'll be mad, but MAMA KNOWS BEST. When I wash their bedding, I usually wash it twice (always in hot water) - once with "free...

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

I got the results of Giggy's fecal back (I wasn't able to drop it off until this past Saturday), and he also has giardia! The vet wants to prescribe panacur for him as well, but is this neccessary since he hasn't shown any symptoms at all? I thought I read something on the forum about how they...

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

Update: Max's fecal results came back today and he has giardia. When I go to the vet to pick up Max's meds, I'll be taking a sample of Giggy's poo to be tested, since although they're in separate parts of the house right now, they weren't before Max initially got sick, and were close enough to...

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

Ok, then I will definitely be asking them to do a fecal tomorrow. What drugs should I be expecting to be sent home with, if there is indeed an infection? This morning I saw that Max had eaten on his own last night and done lots of great looking poos. I didn't notice a smell, but I think it...

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

Thanks for the information, Dawn! Sandi - Thank you so much. :heart5: When I got home today, Max had eaten a good/normal amount during the day, but not pood. I went to make some CC for him and when I got back to his cage, he had done one nice looking poo (this was around 7). I gave him the...

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

Well ok then. I can definitely see how teeth issues would be a walk in the park compared to gut. Actually, Max's small/no poo did come on with no warning. Like I said in my first post there hadn't been any environmental changes at all, everything was status quo and then all of a sudden he was...

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

Thanks, all! I've made a vet appointment for him for Saturday at 10.30 am, and let them know I would like a gut x-ray done. In the meantime, I'll continue to treat his symptoms. This morning I saw he had eaten last night, and his poo looked great. I still handfed him 10mL of CC/probiotic...

Sick, got better, now sick again...what's going on?

I know this is SUPER long, so thank you so much in advance for slogging through it! Max and I both appreciate it. I have a bit of a puzzling situation with Max, and I hope you can help me out. Before reading, keep in mind that there have been no environmental changes for him, and he is on a...
