    Chinchillas and Cats

Thanks everyone! I'm going to talk to the shelter and vet just to get second opinions. But it looks like a cat is a highly possible addition to our family in the near future. :) I also think if I adopt an older cat, it'll help as they tend to be a bit calmer in temperament and less-adopted...

    Chinchillas and Cats

My local animal shelter is having a hard time maintaining the high inventory of cats that they have. Since I volunteer there, they have asked if I would either like to adopt or foster a cat to make room for others who need to be there as well. I have the money, time, and knowledge to invest...

    Keeping Chin's cage cool?

A window AC unit isn't quite an option as much as we'd like to have one. The windows in the new place aren't the normal AC window type. Especially in the room that we have the chin in. All of the windows are from the floor to the ceiling. We're getting darker curtains to block out the sun more...

    Keeping Chin's cage cool?

We moved into this beautiful place. It's lovely, twice the size of our last place, and it has these enormous, huge windows that just leak in natural light. It's a wonderful thing, until we've realized that this "natural light" feature is messing with our internal temperatures, especially being...

    Need help with noise

I have Sigma's cage in my room, and he makes a ton of noise. The thing is that hubby and I can't really sleep without some kind of background noise so we actually like it. (we're crazy! I know) The first couple weeks we didn't sleep very well primarily because we were getting used to the...

Fuzzies Kingdom will be closed for a summer break

Oh yea, that's what I meant. XD So used to the PVC tubes. He absolutely loves it. It's his favorite lounge area. I like that it's metal more-so than PVC. Better quality. Great quality all around. :)

    The Ferret Nation Club

I believe the difference is the bar-spacing. The Critter Nation has bars that are closer together, where the FN has a little bit more of a gap in their bars. Both bar spacing are fine for chinchillas.

Fuzzies Kingdom will be closed for a summer break

Got my package from you a few days ago (the forest babies basic set)- Sigma just loves your items! And they're of really great quality. His favorite thing to do is to "dig out" the pillow from the cube hanging house. <3 The PVC fleece covered tube is a close first favorite! Thanks so much for...

    How much food?

Still unlimited food. I would keep a measure of the food. If you have a scale, set the bowl on it, set it to zero, then fill it with food and keep a look-out on the ounces that are eaten each day to make sure his food intake is substantial.

    Right type of fleece

As ridiculous as it is, we have a bunch of old fleece blankets shoved under the furniture that Sigma isn't really allowed to go under since he has an issue with chewing the bottom of the furniture. But he's made a game of tug-o-war with trying to pull the fleece free. It keeps him entertained...

Cage Cleaning- It has to be easier!

That is a very smart idea! I like the idea of getting one of those chair matts- but if I let Sigma out of the cage, will he chew on it? If he does, is that going to be an issue? I know those things are pretty thick. But I really would like to have that under there. This whole area is just a...

    Ferret nation cage sale!!!

I saw that too! I hope that they keep the sale up for next week when I get my bonus. Then I know exactly what I'm putting my bonus towards. :)

Sigma showing off his clean cage~

Thanks, Huffnpoof! I think he'll be happier in a FN. But he does seem quite content with his Martin cage. :)

    Chinchilla and his fleece girlfriend c;

Sigma hates his cuddly girlfriend. She always ends up buried under something. >.<

    My new buddy Niklaus :3

Sigma showing off his clean cage~

Finally got done cleaning Sigma's cage. He's normally super afraid of the camera, but he posed for this one! I was really excited. Got all of my fleece items from Fuzzie's Kingdom- I am really satisfied with the quality of this fleece. It's super thick and fluffy. And, most importantly, it is...

    ISO Water bottle recommendations

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11180183&lmdn=Product+Type&f=PAD%2FpsNotAvailInUS%2FNo This is my favorite water bottle to ever use. Sigma caught onto it really quickly. And I like that it isn't like the vacuum-sealed ones that suck their spit up into it. Keeps the water...

Cage Cleaning- It has to be easier!

Oh wow! Thanks for the Shop Vac suggestion! It looks pretty industrial and able to tolerate the hay that I need to get up. I'm kind of over picking up hay pieces one by one off of the carpet. I will put that on the list of things I need to get! And yes, two hours seems to be about the time it...

Cage Cleaning- It has to be easier!

I love Sigma. I love everything about Sigma. Even when he makes a total mess in his cage and decides that Hay is a better bedding than the fleece as he drags it ALL over the cage (and sometimes out). However, the cage that I have is really quite a production to clean it. I have the Martin's...

    Fleece Flippers

Just found out that they are not. The fleece flippers internally use coroplast which is not safe for chins to digest. It also consists of Uhaul recycled blankets which are made of recycled denim material. The fibers aren't like that of fleece. Though- in theory, if the fleece flippers fit in...
