    Should I be worried???

Wondering if I should be concerned at all or if this is normal... I have two brothers, who are now about 4 months old (approximately). The last three mornings, one of them (Dash) has been spending a lot of time "cleaning himself". The chinchillas I've had in the past have done this of course...

    Out of cage options?

Wondering what everyone does for out of cage time. I used to have a spare room just for the chinchillas (I have 2), but that's no longer an option. I'm wondering if anyone has tried the playpens or if you have other portable ideas? I'm looking for an option that I can use in any room and...

Advice/Thoughts | 3 Month Old Baby - Sleeping in pee?

I've seen him lay his head right where he pees, so my guess is that he's laying in it. But I guess he could be laying there and his brother pees on him in that same spot. I'm hoping it's not malicious between the two. Do you think? I'll put a litter pan in and see what happens.

    Litter Training

How young can I start litter training? My boys are just over 3 months old, but they seem consistent with the corner they choose to pee in. Is that too young to put a glass littler pan in to start training?

Advice/Thoughts | 3 Month Old Baby - Sleeping in pee?

About a month ago, I got 2 baby boys, so they are now just over 3 months old. A couple of times now, one of them (Dash) has seemed to be covered in pee. (At least that's what I'm guessing from the smell!) Is this normal behavior for a young chin? I've only ever had adults, so not 100% sure what...

General Housing Questions (for 6 Month Olds)

And what about temperature? I've read things about babies needing some warmth. But I'm clueless when it comes to that. I just know my adults are never in heat above 75ish. (Sorry for the number of questions, but I truly appreciate your help!)

General Housing Questions (for 6 Month Olds)

Wow. That's a HUGE help! Thank you. Right now I have them in a carrier because I wasn't sure about the cage size. I've had many adult chins, but never any babies. These two came from a rough situation. Long story short: A friend of a friend had two chins, thought they were the same sex, they had...

Help! Info Needed for 2 Month Olds

Hi All! I'm fostering 2 Male 2-Month Old kits and they were just dropped off today. They didn't come from a good situation, so I don't know much about their life before now, but I know their mother died a few weeks ago. They have been eating Timothy Hay and drinking water from a water bottle...

General Housing Questions (for 6 Month Olds)

Thanks for the info! I just found out they meant to say 6 WEEKS not 6 Months. Ugh! So they are now only about 2 Months Old. Any additional insights on the younger ones? Can they have levels in their cage yet? etc. Please let me know! TIA!

General Housing Questions (for 6 Month Olds)

I'm going to be fostering two 6 month old little boys. And even though I've had many chins over the years, I've never had chins this young, so I had a few questions: 1) Does their housing need to be any different than a full-grown chin? I've always had the double critter nation, but I'm...

    Weaning from critical care

Looking for some advice on weaning a chinny off of critical care food. A little background: Cotton is about 8 years old and has recently developed some teeth problems. :( He stopped eating and we saw the vet on April 2nd. He got a trimming and was in a lot of pain and lost some weight so we've...

Help please - New metal pans

Just got metal pans for my boys cage, but a little worried about him slipping. I have fleece in a few areas but have never completely covered the pans in fleece. He's also litter pan trained so I don't want to use wood shavings on the bottom. Is this something he'll get used to? Is it safe...

    Metal Pan Replacement Help!

I have emailed Bass but will call on Monday to see about a custom order. I've never had a problem before but all of a sudden, my boy is constantly trying to chew on the plastic of the half shelves. We've been in this cage for 4 years without a problem, so not sure why it's starting now. He has...
