    EXTREME quill loss!!

Well, I have good an bad news. I found a vet and she is awesome. We now have another possibility off the list: parasites. She took a fecal float and It came back negative. She put both Mace and Khaki on baytril in the meantime just to be safe. To make a long story short, little Khaki and...

    EXTREME quill loss!!

Smhufflepuff, since they are on BB now, what should I use instead? I tried to mix before, but Khaki just ate the BB, so I gave up. I'm MORE than willing to try to do that! They are getting all sorts of wet food, but then back to the bb, so I'm sure trying a different food won't shock them...

    EXTREME quill loss!!

Well, my vet just called me and I'm beyond furious. I'm now going to have to find a different vet. She is insisting it is mites, even though we have had multiple scrapings and have found nothing. Their ears aren't tattered and they show no other signs of mites other than quill loss. She...

    EXTREME quill loss!!

Smhufflepuff (I wish I knew your real name!) I have done almost everything that you suggested. Today, Mace has lost 49 quills and Khaki (I haven't taken her out as long) has lost 36. I have washed EVERY single cloth thing they have, disinfected EVERY plastic surface, bought a Brita filter for...

    EXTREME quill loss!!

They are both on fleece and have been for months. Khaki has a small litter box that has exquisicat cat litter in it. I didnt use any detergent when washing the liners until last week when I got the tide free and clear. When I washed their old cages, I would use apple cider vinegar, until we...

    EXTREME quill loss!!

HEY! Sorry, it's been crazy. This will probably be a long and boring post to everyone but Kalandra. OKAY, so he was put on enrofloxacin, and hated it. It smelled really alcoholy, so I'm sure it was nasty. I had Laura Dunklee (she's an angel and let me call her and walked me through it) help...

    EXTREME quill loss!!

Thanks for the suggestion guys. I told the vet, and she took some of Mace's quills from his back to culture them. I should get the results within the week. He's on antibiotics now in the meantime, and he's not happy with it. I'm struggling to syringe them to him. He rolls in the tightest...

    EXTREME quill loss!!

hm....I really want you to see the pics Kalandra. Let me try and fix it. Hold on a second. And I will for sure ask them about bacterial infection. I am a staph carrier....when daddy and I had ringworm, his turned into a bad staph infection because of me. Maybe my other boy did the same thing.

    EXTREME quill loss!!

So, I've been posting about this for about a month or so in the facebook group, but I want some more opinions/help if possible. I got Khaki in Sept, and she started quilling a few weeks after I got her. Her quilling was bad, lasted about 3 months and was traumatic for her. I got mace in Feb...

    Guys, Help~!!

Thank you Smhufflepuff. They are both losing quite a few quills now. I'm trying to see if it is the detergent I use on their liners that is drying them out. Mace's poopies are back to normal and he doesn't have a bald spot yet. I plan on calling my vet on my way to work tomorrow and talking...

    Guys, Help~!!

A few months ago, if you remember right, I took Khaki to the vet. She had been losing quills and became a bit bald on her backside. At the vet, he checked for mites and didn't see anything. I had also brought Mace, just in case. He didn't see any mites on a bunch of scrapings. He sent me home...

Why a hedgehog should NOT be housed with a Guinea Pig

Oh my gosh! How could someone do that?!? Poor little thing!

    Sweet syrupy smell

They are awesome! If I didn't have it, I'd be worried Khaki wasn't running since her wheel is spotless every day. She actually runs 1.5 miles a night, every night. Mace runs anywhere from a mile to 9 miles (last night) and has the poopiest wheel. It's awesome to be able to see and moniter...

    Sweet syrupy smell

Hahah, maybe Mace has sweet pee pee cuz he's so sweet? How is Filbert? Running a lot now you don't have a light?

About to give up on grouchy baby

Sorry, I am just seeing this. She has good and grouchy days. I tell her she's being a grouchypants when she huffs. I can tell she trusts me more now, it's just little things. She will let me hold her and will lay on me for a hot minute before she's off exploring. When I'm next to her cage...

    Stumped!

Haha, Mace does this too! He was so good at using his box, but now that he's a runnin fool, he will ONLY use his wheel and his box is empty! If I didn't clean off lots of poopie from the wheel I'd be worried he wasn't going anymore. Khaki is good about playing I. Her litter and spreading it...

    Sweet syrupy smell

Ok this is going to sound like I'm nuts, but I'm really curious. (sorry if there are typos, I'm on my phone typing quickly. Has anyone noticed a sweet smell from their hedgies? I swear Mace smells like syrup. He always does too. It could be the night after Bathtime and he still smells...

    Fifty Shades of Grey

I actually just finished reading the third in the series. The writing and editing is horrific, but I couldn't stop reading them! I actually was listening to them on audible, but you get the point. I don't know what it is about the books, but they are addicting.
