    Sick chin still losing weight

I have another thread in Emergencies (not so much of an emergency now we've been through the vet) about my chinchilla with a probable UTI and bloat. She's on Baytril, Reglan and a probiotic. The problem (in addition) is she's lost a lot of weight. She's never been a big chin but she's dropped...

    Likely teeth problems with chin

Hi all, we think our chinchilla has teeth problems. She's picking up pellets, gnawing on them a little bit and throwing them aside. She's lost a lot of weight. We didn't realize what was happening because she's also been throwing her food out of her bowl, because she's like that. She's still...

    Emergency Heat Plan Recommendation?

We have air conditioning but it's going to hit 100 for a couple days this week (this is the most stressful time of year for me!) I have this down as an emergency plan if the power goes out: - Take chins carriers with ice packs covered in fleece/marble/water and go to nearest vet in air...

    Cinnamon being handfed

She's all better now but have you seen a cuter sick chin? She was being such a good baby after she got the appetite enhancer and the probiotics

Chin vet in Portland, OR metro area

We took our little Cinnamon to this vet in Beaverton: http://www.swanimalhospital.net/index.php Very knowledgeable and not that expensive.

    Chin has pneumonia

My baby Cinnamon has pneumonia. We caught it extremely early (like she was her little bouncy self yesterday) but the vet put her on .28 mL of baytril by mouth. She had an injection last night and we gave the first dose by mouth this morning. She turned down a rose hip but took part of a raisin...

How long do you leave things?

How long do you leave wood things in their cages? Vincenza doesn't chew her ledges or pee on them but I sand them down weekly when I clean her cage. But she's had her house and some of her ledges for 3 years! Do you do a remodel every so often? Or let it go until it's too unsanitary/chewed up?

    Where's the chinchilla?

Man, I just can't find my chinchilla! (Vincenza's started burrowing under her fleece. I'll come home and see a little chinchilla shaped lump moving around)

    Chin Chewing on Silver Surfer

So my little PITA chinchilla that does everything you get warned about has started chewing her wheel. She has plenty of things to chew on but you know, she loves metal and to make me panic. Poop/drink/food is normal.

The saddest chinchilla that ever lived

This is because I dared go over to other chinchilla cage!

    Buzzing/chewing/dusty pellets

We've had a chin for about a year and a half that does all of the above. She buzzes and will destroy one of the Whimsy Jacob's Ladders in two days. She's also had a long habit of grinding her pellets into dust. Vets haven't found anything and she's bright eyed, bushy tailed, energetic, poops...

    Sudden change in schedule?

Hello! I'm not overly worried about this as such, just a little curious. Both of our chinchillas just dramatically changed their daily schedules. They used to sleep from say 7:00am-5:00pm with a little bit of activity in the late afternoon. Now they sleep more intermittently and are wide awake...

    Ferret Nation Doors?

I have a feeling someone posted about Ferret Nation doors being easy to open for tiny little chinchilla paws. I did a search for it but couldn't find anything. Is this an issue? We just bought a 181 for a very precocious little chinchilla.

    Brats!

We have a total little brat chinchilla. I think we were hoping she would calm down when she got older. But she's almost 2 (based off what we were told when we got her) and she's still as bratty as she was as a baby. In fact, as she gets smarter, she gets worse! When she was little she started...

Some random pics of Cinnamon in a castle.

We realized we have first child syndrome with Vincenza. She's in all the pictures! So we made an effort to get a few of Cinnamon. And... you know, space chinchilla. (The castle is a cardboard one we got off Woot! after someone here posted about it. It is seriously large enough to be a...

    Cardboard and cardboard playhouses!

I was wondering if there was a consensus about how safe cardboard is? Vincenza loves to eat it, or at least shred it and chew on it. I seem to remember something about possible impactions? Anyhow! I saw this...

    Talkers!

Tell me about your talking chins! We have two, one we got when she was a baby and the other when she was four. What we've noticed is the baby talks all the time. She woke me up last night making peeping sounds at me and then scared the **** out of me when she just kind of kept doing it. Without...

To roam or not to roam

We're very, very cautious with playtime for our girls. We only let them out in a confined space we've cleared to make safe. (No outlets, no places to hide) But! I see a lot of people letting them do their little things in bedrooms and the like. How much do you let your chin roam? What do you...

    Internet diagnosis please!

So here's what Vincenza is doing: - She seems a little more subdued than normal. She's not bouncing as much, though when she does move around her cage she does it energetically. - She's been making a teeth grinding/clicking sound. I've heard her do it before. - She's been peeping a bit but...

    Cinnamon and Vincenza say hi

Oh hello did you come to my cage? We've started calling her drop bear after an urban legend/trick on tourists in Australia. They'll tell you there's a type of carnivorous koala that drops from the trees with no warning. Cinnamon will appear from nowhere, except she doesn't want to bite your...
