Do you know why Chinchillas will often sit with their back to you?

Well, what do chinchillas look like when they have their backs to you? Little round rocks! I believe that this is a behavior engrained in the gene pool that in the wild enables them to avoid being seen by eagles, wolves, foxes, coyotes, or any other predator. Survival!

Has anyone had a chin with fatty lumps?

My chin has had a fatty lump under his right forearm for some time. The vet said it's not cancer and not to worry unless it's hampering his movements, which it doesn't seem to be doing. Has anyone had good success with removing a fatty lump?

    Too hot for Chinzia?

I keep the temp at 73 and have no problems. The AC went out the other day and it started approaching 80 which is when I got a portable AC unit until my central AC got fixed. There is nothing wrong with 70 or 68 for chins but it's too cold for me! It's easier to err on the side of being a little...

    Question about getting new chin

Sounds like Minato may like to live alone. I've thought about getting a cage mate for my chin but he seems to do fine by himself. Of course with me giving him lots of attention.

My girl is 15 years old!

Wow, congrats to you and Tilly! Sounds like she is your best friend. BTW, my chin Ernie still does not like being picked up either. He will sit on the palm of my hand when he wants attention and to be petted but he wants to do it on his own terms. lol

    Chin Spin Wheels

I've had a Chin Spin for more than 10 years for my chin Ernie. He's always enjoyed running on it and they're very well made. Make sure that you ask for a couple extra sets of bearings as they do go out and need to be replaced, which is relatively easy to do!

    Chinchilla noises randomly

Well RedRuby, sounds like you're not alone on the chin sounds! Maybe get some earplugs to sleep? ;)

    Chinchilla noises randomly

Exactly, same with Ernie! At first, I was worried that something was terribly wrong because the sounds were so awful sounding. He also makes some other real high pitched sounds that are even more terrifying and sounds like he's broke a leg or something, but again, when I go to check on him, he's...

    Chinchilla noises randomly

My chin does the same thing. He squawks really loudly at random times when I'm in or outside of the room. It sounds like he's hurt or in distress but when I come in to check on him he's fine! Maybe he just wants some attention. :)

    Is Oxbow Bad For Chins?

Oxbow hay and pellets have been fine for my chin Ernie, who is going on 12 years old! I've tried samples of several other brands and found none to be as high quality and healthy for my chin.

    Fatty Lump

My chin Ernie has developed a fatty lump under his forearm that is getting quite large. He can still maneuver pretty good but I'm worried that it may start to impede his movements. He's an older chin at 12 years. Anyone else have this issue with your chin? Any suggestions?
