    Tail Wound

I let my chinnies out to play today around the office, but one of them, Gus Gus, knocked over a cement tile and I think it fell on his tail unfortunately. There's blood/bleeding on either side of the tail. This is closer to the tip, probably about 3 inches from the tip. I tried to lessen the...

    Allergic to Chinchillas?

When I hold Mr. B I sometimes get little scratches from him, they turn red and puffy afterwards. Does anyone else get this and is it a Chinchilla allergy? I've read that most Chinchilla allergies are actually dust/timothy hay, but these are respiratory.

    Small poop

At night I separate my two chinchillas in their two level CN cage. I've noticed Mr. B leaves some pretty small poop in the morning, and am trying to figure out what is causing that. I removed his small pet select grass chews so that he only has timothy, orchard hay, oxbow essentials pellets...

    Is my chinchilla unhappy?

Ever since I bonded Mr. B (~4 y/o) and Gus Gus (11 months I think) together, I've noticed Mr. B has kind become more withdrawn. He used to like sitting up on the ledges facing the outside of the cage, but now he prefers to sit in the back ledge, behind the hammock, sometimes in the back corner...

    Can Chinchillas eat these treats?

I found a new Chinchilla snack provider, very affordable prices too! Although some of the ingredients they sell I haven't heard of before but claim to be edible for Chinchillas and/or Rabbits - Akebia (Chocolate Vine) Maypop (fruit and vine) - This is a passionflower I think Dried Okra pods...

    Small Pet Select Chews

I've been getting these for the chinchillas, they both super love the meadow grass chews. Mr. B loves the buckwheat, Rye, and Cattail chews too. Altho Small Pet Select says these are safe for Chinchillas, I just wanted to double check if they really are? Natural Toys and Chews for Chinchillas

    Increased aggression after puberty?

Are chinchillas like human teenagers? Do they become more aggressive once they reach puberty? Does this affect males only or both male and females?

New chubby chonker unit: Gus Gus

Thought I'd pose some photos of my new chubby chonker chin, Gus gus! Named after the lil fat brown mouse in Cinderella. :) He's about 6 months old now. Loves the little wheatie things in the timothy hay and apple sticks! He likes doing parkour wall jumps in his cage, and going bonkers...

    Bonding and age difference?

I recently got a 5 month old chin, Gusgus! (named after the fat Cinderella mouse) Should I wait until he's a bit older before trying to bond him with my 4-5 year old chin? Once I put Gusgus into his cage across the room from Mr. B's cage, Mr. B got pretty antsy and I'm worried things would be...

    2 chins 2 wheels?

After talking to the breeder and considering if I want to cage my chins separately or together, I've decided I'm going to try to bond them and then hopefully have them live in the same cage together once they're bonded. Should I get two of everything (food bowls, wheels, water bottles, huts) so...

How quickly do chinchillas pass/digest thiings?

Mr B made some strange poops today, they are kind of soft, misshapen, and little bit of it is even gummy, like... a booger. o_O I'm wonder if this is him passing a piece of duck tape from last week (he got a piece and chewed on part of it over night :/ ), or if its the dried nettle leaf he ate...

Should I bring my chin to an introduction?

I'm thinking of getting another male chinchilla so Mr. B will have some company! On chincare.com I read that it's good to bring the other Chinchilla so that you can ensure it gets along with the new one? Does anyone have any experience doing this? Do I just let them sniff each other through...

Taking a chinchilla out of it's "house"

I remember reading somewhere (I forget which website), that it's not good to take a chinchilla out of it's little house/hut thingie when it runs in there, because that's their "safe space". You should try to pick it up/get the chinchilla when it's not in its house/hut. Does anyone have an...

    Pellet to hay ratio..

Since January I've been feeding Mr. B Sherwood, which he will eat but never finishes the 2tbsp. Before that I fed him Oxbow, he would eat almost all the pellets (~2tbsp). Recently I decided to switch him back to Oxbow because Sherwood pellets are expensive ($18 a bag!), and he super loves Oxbow...

    Are Mahogany Wood/Pods chin safe?

I saw these toys on Etsy: Short Stack Poly Rope Bird Toy Palm Coins Mahogany Chunks | Etsy and am wondering if they're Chin safe? The seller says they are and people have bought them for their chins in the review section, but I rarely see Mahogany listed as a chin safe wood. I've seen...

Shedding for a few months, is that normal?

My chin Mr. B started shedding a few months ago with the visible U-shaped hairline on his back, and even a few tufts on the ears etc. It's been a few months and he still has little fur tufts on his butt/rump area. I read that shedding can take a few months or even just a few weeks, but I feel...

Um, I love my chin so here are photos of him

I adopted Mr. B last December and it's been such a good decision for me! After not having had a pet since I moved away from home (10+ years) its so nice to have another critter around now. :) Especially now that I'm stuck working from home all day (hope I don't make too much noise for him...

    TV?

I have a single chin and I've read that it's really helpful for them to have a TV so that they're not all by themselves with nothing to do at night. Does anyone have an opinion on this? I play with Mr. B at the very least, every other night. Usually try to play with him ever night for about 45...

When your chin has taken over your living space :P

This is the dining nook in my apt. Lately it's become Mr. B's playground! He loves the space and does so many popcorns when it's playtime! I think it's because he gets to be underneath the table and benches, makes him feel safe. Sometimes he'll jump onto the benches and table top, but...

Fresh Apple Sticks vs Baked ones

A few weeks ago I bought some apple wood chew sticks off of etsy for Mr. B. When I got them in the mail I noticed he looooved these apple sticks. Normally he is quite picky and won't chew about 1/3 of the ones I have. But today I noticed when making another applewood purchase, that these...
