    Chinnie not eating his pellets

Alright so here’s a brief update: I’m with him right now for his nighttime playtime and he finally finished the remaining pellets that he had (about half a tbs). Note that this took him 2 days to finish. His fresh poops are a bit larger now, oval shape. He’s also zooming across the room and...

    Chinnie not eating his pellets

No, his poops have been smaller and less frequent. I haven’t been checking his weight for the past few months but I believe the last time I checked him he was around 500-600 grams. His pellets seem fine; it’s a half empty bag so he’s been eating the same pellets for a while now.

    Chinnie not eating his pellets

Hello, I noticed a couple days ago my chinnie hasn't been eating as much pellets as he typically does. Usually I give him 1-2 tbs daily, and he hasn't been touching it much lately. He'll take a few nibbles from it but the bowl is never empty the next morning like it usually is. However, he's...

What types of air purifiers are safe?

I heard that air fresheners are unsafe for chins, which is explainable, but that air purifiers aren’t. I’ve never used either before in the chinnie room, but I’m thinking about putting one in there to keep the room smelling fresh. Are there certain types of purifiers that I should avoid? Are...

Advice on playtime and room setup?

I’ve tried cardboard before, but one of my chinnies loves to chew and swallow. Since then I have rarely given them cardboard

Advice on playtime and room setup?

Hello, I noticed on some chinchilla blogs, stories and videos the owners let their chinnies free in their room, hallway, or staircases for playtime. What really bewildered me is how, if they are, they are able to keep their chins away from unhealthy objects to chew on. Also, how do they clean...

Are peppermint candles safe for chinchillas?

Hello, As winter nears, the ladybug population in my area are increasing rapidly. Now there's an infestation on the chinchilla room! I want to use peppermint candles to repel them, but I first want to know-- is it safe for my two chinchillas? What other safe options do I have? Thanks!

    Sudden odd behavior please help

Hi, I’ve had Bilbo, my second chinchilla, for a couple of months now. He and Rocket, my first chinchilla, share a room. Recently I reorganized the room, putting Bilbo and Rocket on the same wall with their cages about 8 inches away from each other. I also put a new waterproof rug on the floor...

Substitute for cardboard when covering walls

Hi, recently I’ve placed cardboard at the bottom of the door (where my chinchilla likes to try and bite the paint). However, now he tries to chew and eat the cardboard during playtime. It upsets him whenever I have to shoo him away from it (which is a lot). Does anybody know of any other cheap...

    Safe bath houses

Hi, I'm searching for a safe, durable bath house that can prevent most of the dust from flying out. I'm currently using a cardboard box but it's difficult for the chinchillas to have full contact with the dust on the flat surface. The Kaytee Chinchilla Bath House seems to be a popular choice...

    How do I apply blu-kote?

Hi, I purchased blu-kote (dauber form) for my chinchilla, who was bitten on his cheek. Before I try applying it, I want to verify that I’m going to do it correctly. Do I apply a little on the wound with a q-tip and then leave it to dry? Or do I leave it there for a little and then wash it off...

    Chin Not Dusting!

Hi, I had the same issue when I first got my little guy. After he started getting used to me, he was comfortable enough to take a dust bath. Since you’ve only had him a few months, I’m assuming it’s the same problem. I just use a cardboard box and my two chins seem to be fine with it! Sent...

My new chinchilla was bitten, what do I do?

Hi, last night my first chinchilla (Rocket) got out of his cage because I accidentally left the top door open. My second chinchilla (Bilbo) follows Rocket around from his cage during playtime; he seems to want to fight but I’m not positive. I’m guessing Rocket and Bilbo fought through the cage...
