    Depressed chinchilla

I have two chins and they have very distinct personalities. Both are sisters and one is an introvert named Squeak. I persuaded Squeak out of her shell and bonded with her by using dried oatmeal as a treat and training tool. I used unflavored Quaker Oats very sparingly. At first, I started to...

3 Story Critter Nation Cage Setup

My little contribution and thanks to the many ETSY artisans who helped me create my chins 3 story CN cage. It's a work in progress!!!

    Dried Flower Consumption

Thanks again Amethyst. My chins seem to enjoy most of the treats I have been giving them. They don't seem to like the dried peppermint in the sampler though. One of their all time favorite treats is raspberry leaves.

    Dried Flower Consumption

I recently received a treat sampler pack from an ETSY vendor which contained dried hibiscus and chamomile. Does anyone know how much dried flowers a chin may consume and still not be considered detrimental to their digestive system?

3 Story Critter Nation Cage Setup

Lisse, that's a sick set up. I like open layouts. My chins didn't like hammocks and my first incarnation of my cage looked a lot like yours.

    Modifying a Ryerson Carrier

Does anyone have an idea on how to modify a Ryerson carrier? I received my double carrier the other day and for the most part I am pretty impressed with its construction and design. However, I'm not to keen on the latch for the mesh doors. Has anyone changed out the latch for something like on...

    Funny Training Behavior

Yesterday, my chin named Squeak, exhibited a funny but cute behavior during our training session. Let me set the table. Squeak unlike her sister, Pip, has a rather narrow rat looking face and beadier eyes. LOL. She also has slightly longer paws than her sibling. For a few weeks, I was watching a...

    Quality Cage Litter Pan

Josh Paulson, the creator of the ChinSpin, sent me the QC chinchilla litter pan. I am thoroughly satisfied with his design and craftsmanship. It has high walls on two sides and fits into a cage corner. My chins can pee and poop through the mesh without kicking out the bedding vastly reducing my...

    Litter pan?

Josh Paulson from Quality Cage Crafters and creator of the ChinSpin makes an awesome metal corner chinchilla litter box. It has hardware on it making possible to be hung like a ledge in most cages.

How to / DIY project listing

Portable Saw I just used this Makita CXT portable 12V saw to make my first DIY ledges for my chins! Love it!!!! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019WA7146/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Bath Dust on ChinSpin

I guess I'll just have to prepare and clean the ChinSpin the best I can. And to maximize the bearing life, I will have to give my chins their dust bath outside of their cage. I tried it once before but they seemed more intent on just running and frolicking than bathing outside of their cage! LOL.

3 Story Critter Nation Cage Setup

Thanks Keala. I just recently added to my CN two story cage to make it a three story one. I used to rock climb and now I get to watch my chins do the same on a smaller scale. LOL. The bottom of my cage is a standard setup with a ChinSpin, hay and pellet feeders, water bottle, litter box , Bass...

    Carrier Training Methods

It took my chins about a month to get socialized with me! They would never jump on me during their outside cage playtime until yesterday. Yesterday was the first time they actually reached out from their cage and climbed on my hand and up my arm. I was using crushed rose hips or rolled oats as...

    Hawaii Chin Owners

Amethyst, that's a good point on frequency and having the added stress on the chins. I apologize for not being more specific or not wording my problem better. However, it still doesn't justify these owners who rehome to not have any information on their chins health. I just found it very odd...

    Hawaii Chin Owners

It's a fact that Hawaii has one of the highest costs of living in the United States. However, if you're going to be a chin owner in Hawaii DO NOT skimp on the necessities for these particular pets. I have seen other forums (not necessarily this one) where Hawaii chin owners try to get around the...

    Odd Chin Eating Habit

One of my chins eats her Oxbow pellets very oddly. She holds her pellet and nibbles it down to where she is holding onto the remaining portion of the pellet. She then sniffs it and tosses that portion on the floor of the cage!!! Is this weird, eccentric, just plain OCD-like or is she just a...

    Reorganizing Cage Setup

Thanks again for the advice, Amethyst! I just found out that some Lava Ledges are unstable. They tend to loosen from the hanger bolt and completely come off. I decided to not use Lava Ledges and just go with wooden ones. Not sure if I want to glue the Lava Ledge back to the hanger bolt.

    Reorganizing Cage Setup

How often do you change up the cage setup in order to avoid chins becoming bored? I'm just curious how often other owners reorganize their cages.

    The Chin Wheel/Saucer Poll

Love the ChinSpin. It saves so much floor space inside the cage! Quality Cage Crafters has made a near bomb proof cage accessory. Built to last!!!

dumbest thing your chin has ever done

The first day I received the ChinSpin my girls were all over it. Pip was hesitant but she is the thinker among the two sisters. She slowly figured out the ChinSpin by day two. Her sister, Squeak, on the other hand, is the one who learns her lessons the hard way. After she mastered the basic trot...
