    Chinchilla Excessively Drooling

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, I concur that drastic measures need to be taken. I'm taking her in to vet #2 to get the referral for a small-animal focused dentist. And thank you for the info on the Meloxicam, I will definitely follow up with the dentist on it. Hopefully I can get her...

    Chinchilla Excessively Drooling

Thank you. I'm taking her in again tomorrow to talk to the vet and get a referral to a animal dentistry place that apparently specializes in small mammals. I also forgot to mention, she had been chewing on toys. Glad to hear that Meloxicam isn't something that's too scary.

    Chinchilla Excessively Drooling

Thank you so much! Vet 2 did tell me that if I really want to go through with it, that they will recommend a place for me. Yes, it's been pretty difficult finding a knowledgeable vet, but vet 2 came recommended by the rescue organization I got Mimi from. They both really put the fear of God in...

    Chinchilla Excessively Drooling

Thanks so much for your reply. As for the nuts, I only give it to her once every couple of weeks as a snack. It was recommended by her rescue organization as she's always been pretty small. Vet 2 was recommended by the rescue organization I got Mimi from. Both vets (and me) have felt her lower...

    Chinchilla Excessively Drooling

Hi all, my chinchilla Mimi is having problems with excessive drooling. She gets the entire front chest area wet, but I feel that it is worse on the left side. This behavior started around 3 months ago. It used to just be on/off, but for the last 2 weeks she has been very wet. I've been taking...

    Chinchilla has consistently wet chin

Hello, my older (8 or 9 years old) female chinchilla Mimi has recently started having wet fur on her chin, and only her chin. I tried changing the height of the water bottle to see if that was the issue, but it's still wet. It won't be wet for about a day, then it'll be wet again. She's still...

    Arthritis in Chin leg?

Thank you for the tip! I’ve been trying to find a vet that’s open that had experience with chins, but it’s kinda of an uphill battle :( I hate seeing her not being able to jump properly and stuff.

    Arthritis in Chin leg?

TLDR: Chin probably has arthritis, how do you go about alleviating the symptoms? Hi, I’ve posted before regarding this particular chin of mine, but I would love it if anyone can give me more tips and pointers. I previously wrote about how Mimi chewed her left inner thigh open. I had finally...

    Chin keeps opening wound

TLDR: Can I use a liquid bandage for a wound, and if so, what brands do you recommend? Hi, I have a 6 yr old female chinchilla who recently chewed on her leg, making a pretty big wound. I was successful in healing that particular wound, as her natural skin has basically grown over it. However...

How much critical care is safe?

Yeah, I never want to go through that again, for multiple reasons haha. Mimi was not a happy camper being syringe fed. I tried wrapping it, she basically chews through it or it just comes off eventually :(. It’s mostly just a flesh wound at this point, so not too worried. I’m putting udder cream...

How much critical care is safe?

Hi, yes! She is completely better now. The leg is looking much much better, but it’s taking a while to heal since she keeps picking at the scab. The doctor said I could put a cone around her neck, but also said that might cause her to stop eating again, so decided not to do that. Thank you for...

How much critical care is safe?

Thank you to everyone that replied. She has started going regularly, although she had some diarrhea today, so the vet told me to put her off of the cisapride. The next problem is to keep her from picking at the wound on her leg, and her opening it up again. The vet said they have a collar I can...

How much critical care is safe?

Hi, thanks for your reply! I was able to get her to eat MUCH easier when I used a smaller syringe (1 ml vs 10 ml). She has finally started going regularly!

How much critical care is safe?

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I did try massaging her stomach, not too sure if I have been able to do so correctly or not. The critical care food is mixed with water, so it has a smoothie-like texture. I think she is getting enough water from the critical care solution, but I’ll see if I can get...

How much critical care is safe?

Thank you! Yeah I’m feeding 10 ml a time, but it’s pretty difficult... also worried that she’ll develop bloat from being stuffed. I’m super worried, but she is able to move around pretty well. How long did your chin take to recover from GI statis, if you don’t mind me asking?

How much critical care is safe?

Thank you very much for your input. I’ve been splitting it up since it’s hard for her to eat a lot at once, but I am extremely worried about how she is not defecating. Hoping things will get better very soon. I was also prescribed cisapride for her. Do you know any negative effects cisapride has...

How much critical care is safe to give?

TLDR: the vet recommended feeding 20-25ml of critical care 3 times a day (total of 60-75ml a day), which seems like a crazy amount. Any thoughts? Hello, my chins recently hurt her leg doing god knows what. She had torn soft tissue on the hind left leg before, and after 2 to 3 months of cage...
