My Chinchiila Cut its foot. Should i take him to a vet?

Smaller cage with no ledges, keep him on 1 level til he fully recovers.

How can I get her to let me hold her?

It may just be her personality. My 1st chin was cuddly and would perch on mine/my husband's shoulder for hours, whereas my 2nd chin would let us hold him long enough to scoop him out of the cage and move him to playtime area (shoulder perching meant about to escape/jump). He was friendly but...

    Sneezing?

Was this the missing chin or the other chin? I would take him to the vet just to be safe. It could be as simple as too many dust baths/ or dust reminates. Also if you fabreeze close to the cage or any kind of strong fragrance can bother them. Or he might have a respiratory issue.

Always take them to the vet. Open wounds can get infected and ,with their fragile bones, there is a chance of a broken bone. Simple issues can easily become big problems if left unchecked.

    Not sure what is wrong...advice?

Thank you for your sympathies, everyone. A similar thing happened with my first chin. Still don't know what caused their deaths. He was just at the vet little over a month ago for a swollen bug bite. All other things were looking good and the swelling was gone within the week. I will sadly be...

    Not sure what is wrong...advice?

My Diablo has just passed on. No need to respond to this post.

    Not sure what is wrong...advice?

Also, if it helps, chin is 7-10 years old so I don't believe it is an old age thing.

    Not sure what is wrong...advice?

My 'sleepy' chin may have taken a turn for the worst. What I thought was him finally warming up to me may have been his way of saying "I'm not well". He is still eating, but slowly (I gave him critical care along with orchard grass and a raisin and instead of inhaling it, him nibbled.) And he...

    Chinchilla gone missing??

When you say inside or outside, did you have windows or doors to the outside open enough for him to escape? If he has been outside in the snow for 3hrs or more, then chances aren't good. Otherwise he is still inside. Check every small dark space he may even able to fit in. Or try shaking him...

Chinchilla eating very little, skin and bones, sleepy a lot.

a similar thing happened with my first chin, Faust. he was still eating and the poo was normal but he would whine when i would put him down/ back in his cage. he would try to nuzzle back into my hands and slept all the time. i didnt have a scale at home to weigh him so i did not realize how...

    Sleepy chin

Thanks. I will look into that.

    Sleepy chin

Now I am starting to wonder if he is doing this out of instinct. If there are more than one sharing a cage, don't they usually curl up together? So maybe he just wants a nap buddy.

    Sleepy chin

Yeah. It only has been that one time for me. I can hold him for a minute to carry him to a safe play area but he will fidget a bit. I hope he is warming up to me more though. My first chin was a cuddlebug and would run up my arm and perch on my/my husband's shoulder. I miss that.

    Sleepy chin

This is a first for me, at least with my current chin. I scooped Diablo upfrom one of his platforms, as I often do, and usually I will get to hold him for a brief moment. Today, however, he decided to nuzzle up right under my chin and take a nap. It's the cutest thing.

    Change in behavior

Update on Diablo: he is 100% back to normal. I'm allowed to pet and scoop him up again. not sure what changed over night but I am glad.

Keeping pellets in the food bowl

... My chin just became active in that department. At first he would brush aside only the grass he didn't want to eat (picky). Now he pushes out ALL of the grass and leaves the pellets, then (sometimes) goes back to pick through the discarded grass. And he dish never stays in one place while...

    Change in behavior

I did have to give him meds but he seemed welcoming to them. I didn't need to hold him to give them to him. I will continue on as normal and hope he comes around. Just bummed since he's not super cuddly to begin with.

    Change in behavior

I recently took Diablo (my chinchilla) to the vet due to a swollen face from a spider bite. All is well in that area now, he is back to normal except now he won't let me near him. No petting, I can't even scoop him up for out of cage time and he stays in his igloo or on a perch when I feed...
