Considering getting a new animal, need opinions

Also take into consideration that some deceases that are normal to get as a rat, can potentiolly kill a chinchilla, you can avoid this by having them in separate rooms and ofcourse clean hands. But it doesn't guarantee it. I know of people that never had any trouble with it tho!

    Syringe feeding

Hello everyone! Background > One of my chins has a tumor next to his lungs, which makes eating food very painful for him, after talking about it with my vet I asked her if I could give him a mix of Critical Care from Oxbow and Recovery from Science Selective, she said I could try. This was 1...

    Traveling with chin

I'd recommend either getting a metal or full plastic travel cage, they are not allowed to have plastic, but most don't chew that plastic one too much and they get more coverage from the wind than the metal one, though if you are handy with fabric, you could possibly make a cover for the metal...

    Wet?

Thank you so much for the reply! The time I found out about his tumor he got an x-ray and they also checked his teeth on top of that, so everything was fine. He indeed does not eat on his own, maybe a kibble or 1 strand of hay once in a while, but that's about it.. Also noticed today that it...

    The Ferret Nation Club

I really like the set up! I do want to suggest adding more ledges, because it's very easy to fall for them and if they do it can be a pretty big fall from what I can see if they so happen to fall in the middle. Just a little suggestion, other than that it really does look amazing ^~^

    Wet?

Hello everyone, My chinchilla has a tumor next to his lungs, which makes it hard for him to eat normal food, thus I need to hand feed him with a syringe.. Currently I am feeding him Critical Care from Oxbow and Recovery from Science Selective. I have been doing that for a month now and it's...

    Bonding and age difference?

I suggest keeping their cages next to each other, once things settle down you can try the method of putting them together in a carrier. Just remember it can take several months for them to be ok with each other and once you do the carrier method, they might "fight" but as long as there is no...

    Chin toilet bedding

Alrighty, thank you so much. Just wanted to try something new, but I'll stick to the kiln dried pine then~ Very annoying that with most things you can barely find it or it doesn't even tell you what it's made of ;l Currently I indeed have my cages tiled with on each level a pan ^`^ Works very...

    Chin toilet bedding

Heyhey, I wasn't sure if this has been asked yet, but I have been searching for new bedding, but the only one I have found so far is Tumblefresh, is this one suitable? Because I have no experience with the brand at all, so I wanted to make sure..

    The Ferret Nation Club

I have a critter nation myself, but I was wondering if anyone else had the same issue after many years of owning it.. Mine started to wobble and I have no idea how I could possibly fix this? Sometimes it's squeeking due to one of the chins running on it's wheel. I haven't tried yet, but just...

    Can chinchillas be clicker trained?

I don't use a clicker myself, but I thought one of my chinchilla's (the other one I don't have a good enough bond with yet, still working on that) a couple of things like. "Come" "Take it"(Whenever I give a stick or something) "Gimme kiss"(He then presses nose against my lips) "Leave...

    Suggestions for dust bath

I am currently using a large fish bowl aswell, but my boy is very rough with rolling, so it still spills everywhere. What my cousin uses is a new cat litter box with a hood and door, she places it in the cage or floor during play time for about 30 minutes and then away, so they can't chew it...

    Ferret nation cage is wobbly?!?

I have the same issue, mine is on carpet and I have the wheels removed, because after 2 years of usage the wheels snapped off after rolling it away from the spot for cleaning. It was doing it both with and without the wheels.

    Chins Don't Adore The Cold

I have the same thing with mine and even sometimes when the heater is on, he still likes to climb into my hoodie and sleep on my tummy for a very long time and doesn't like it at all when he needs to go back in his cage.. His ears are just a normal peachy colour the whole time. He also always...

    Preparing wood without oven?

Hello everyone! I had a question.. Me and my husband received alot of chin safe woods : Willow, Apple, Pear and Hazelnut. We don't really have a good oven and was wondering if we could airdry them in the house/outside when it's not raining, after having them boiled and scrubbed? I hope to have...
