Hey there!

I was gifted a big new cage for my chinchilla, Pedro. And this thing is at least double the size of his old one. But, with more space comes more need for ledges

I'm pretty sure that all the ledges I have (which now counting, I only have 3) are ones I got with the old cage, which I got from his old owner. So I have never bought ledges, and I have no idea which ones are best, or where to look

So I need some advice. Where can I get a bunch of wood ledges, maybe even one or two bigger wood shelves could be cool as well, for a reasonable price?

Also, any other cage accessory recommendations are greatly appreciated, because I have a LOT more space for stuff if I want it. Preferably somewhat cheap stuff, though

The cheapest way to get ledges is buying wood and making them yourself. It's not hard just cut the boards to the sizes you want (some stores will do it for you) drill a couple holes for the hardware (hanger bolts, washers, and wing nuts) and screw it to the cage. If you don't have any tools or ablity to make them though there are places online like etsy that make ledges, but they aren't cheap depending on what you want to get. Here for example sells various ledges and sets of ledges View Ledges by PandamoniumPets on Etsy

Aside from ledges, you can add fleece hammocks, wood perches, tunnels, hanging toys, lava ledges, clay pots (larger ones for hides and smaller ones for hopping on, if you put a bolt through the drain hole you can hang them on the cage), a chin safe wheel if you don't already have one (those are not cheap though). Here is some DIY links for various things you can make How to / DIY project listing

I second the PandamoniumPets ledges! Admittedly they're the only ones I've purchased, so I can't compare them to other makers on Etsy, but I can say that they're such high quality that I don't foresee needing to buy from any other sellers.

I also picked up some 2"x1"x24" kiln-dried pine "sticks" (not sure I'd call them "boards") from Home Depot and put hanger bolts in the ends so that they span the cage. They add stability and make for good "catwalks" between ledges.

Pandamonium Pets and ChinSurfers (you can Google them, pretty sure they both sell on Etsy in addition to having their own websites) both make awesome ledges in many shapes and sizes, and also sell sets of ledges that are cheaper than buying them individually. I wouldn't say either is exactly cheap, but I feel their prices are reasonable for quality, hand-made products. I've gotten shelves and other accessories from both businesses, and have been extremely impressed with them both.

Only catch is that I'm not sure where you're located. I believe both Pandamonium and ChinSurfers are American-based businesses, so shipping may be pricey depending on where you live. If you're not in the US, I'd recommend looking on Etsy for a seller that's a little closer to home for you.
