Hi this weekend its going to get up to 110 degrees and all of our county has been instructed to not use the AC as the system may get overloaded and break. I was planning to keep her in a dark cool room and put her tile in the freezer and alternate them as well as glasses of ice. What else can i do to keep her as cool as possible?

That will not keep her cool enough. If you have a car, can the chinchilla go in when it reaches 75 degrees and above? They can over heat at 75 and above so I would probably move her before that. However, if your chinchilla gets to 100/110 degrees they will most likely die.

Honestly I would just ignore the instructions and use the AC anyway. A dark room might be ok so long as it stays cool like 70F but 75F at the absolute max. Another option would be to find a place that has AC that you can take the chins to either a relative, friend, hotel or even a vet office that does boarding that have AC.

There are a few things you can do to help temporary, like I mentioned to you before in another post, freezing water bottles/jars and tiles and changed them out as they warm up/thaw, but that only works if they chin stays near them or on them. Not all chins will sit on cooling tiles even if they are overheating. You can also have the chin in a small cage and put that in the fridge with the door open, but will likely use more power then a AC and burn out the compressor in the fridge if done for long. Or drive around with the AC on full in the car.

Yeah I'm keeping her in a dark room and using the ac anyway. I did have an idea tho. I have pillow case style fleece now so what if i put icepack in the top layer of the fleece, therefore preventing her from chewing on it and since the fleece would absorb the the water when it melts, she wont get wet. Would that work along with the jars and the cooling tiles? I have used the jars and cooling tiles before and she does sleep next and on them.
