    420 Chinchillas Rescued

I gave up anytime we post anything to try to help we get attacked or ignored. And now their public relations office is politely brushing every comment off with contact us directly and we have experts on staff. Really? Cause your experts did a bang up job thus far. I'm just sad for the...

    Question About The Saucer

I have two flying saucers right now saving up for two more. My boys run on their flying saucers every single night. My oldest waits for the lights to go out at bedtime then runs and if I turn the light back on he stops, turn it off again he starts running and so on, it's a bit of a game at...

    wood troubles

We got his bloodwork. He has heptatic lipidosis from not eating well. My vet wants to put off the surgery for the bladder stone for a week to let his liver values go down now that he's eating better. He's putting on weight now, she doesnt feel he can handle the surgery just yet, maybe next...

    wood troubles

We got blood today and sent out a comprehensive profile, I will get the results Tuesday. I took a suggestion from forever feisty chins and took a full body rad, he has a bladder stone. We're going to do an ultrasound to confirm that it's in the bladder then if his bloodwork is normal do...

    wood troubles

Sorry I haven't been on in awhile, family health issues. He was doing well for a while even went back to eating his pellets, but now he's off pellets. We haven't been able to get blood from him to run his values but we made the unofficial diagnosis based on his symptoms that it's kidney damage...

    wood troubles

I haven't been on here since I lost my boy to malo in January, bad memories. Well I noticed on 11/18 my one chin had a weepy eye, took him into my work the next day for the vet to look at, we started tobramycin drops. Eye didn't get better, so last wednesday I brought him back in because he...

    Malo chins

Scamp was 3 when he was diagnosed with malo. It started with just one side having a point and the vet said it wasn't malo and that it wouldn't happen again, nothing happened for two months then he got hit hard, in the four months that followed his mouth went to **** and he was lost to us...

    Rescues

I'm looking for a potential cagemate for my one male who just lost his best friend, I have the means to divide the cage in half if they don't get along. But I'm only looking for males. And due to malo showing up before the age of 3 in most cases I'm looking for chins that are older, at least 5...

    Scamp

Thank you everyone. It was very hard, I thought I had more time with him. He was still playing the day before he died. But there was absolutely nothing that could be done. We're thinking he developed fatty liver from not eating. It was just so sudden though. Just the other day I had to...

    Chin and German Shepherd

Depends on the dog. I have three dogs in my house, two aren't even allowed in the room I keep the chins because I don't trust them even with the chins in their cages. One lets the chins run on her. She has no prey drive, doesn't know how to play with toys so she doesn't bother, she doesn't...

    Scamp

After four months of daily syringe feeding the Maloclussion won and Scamp had to be euthanized. He fought the entire time and did well after his filings. But this last time he didn't bounce back like he usually did. He started dropping weight very rapidly. Thursday I took him to my work to...

    Rescues

I was wondering if anyone knew of any rescues in the New Jersey area. I'm willing to drive. I just put my malo chin down and while I'm not looking to rush out and get a new chin, I do in a few weeks from now want to give an older rescue a good home. I have the empty cage space now and I have...

At what point do you consider a chinchilla "sick"? Or "sick enough" to be put down?

They go with more than needed because they'd rather go overboard then risk underdosing and "oh my fluffy sat up". That would be a bit traumatizing to the owners, if instead of dying the animal continues to live and they have to draw up more of the solution and do it over again. So we always...

At what point do you consider a chinchilla "sick"? Or "sick enough" to be put down?

Scamp had an abscess of one of the molars, the previous vet had filed the teeth too short and the gum grew over the teeth and became infected. They push the gum back, draining the abscess and then treated with antibiotics. It cost me about $350.

    Smorgasbord

Squash and pumpkin, ok. I went with green vegetables since that's what the vet told me to get. I'll take the wheel out, I only left it in because the cagemate likes the wheel and Scamp never really ran on it until recently. He would sit on it but never ran on it, until about two weeks ago, he...
