    Not Drinking - gas

I did have a go at crushing up some of his pellets but he refused :( I'll have to try the burrito method tomorrow with the syringe. Thanks for replying again.. it's nice to have someone to talk to

    Not Drinking - gas

Yes, I'm thinking there's something a lot worse going on ... He's eating such a small amount now that his poos have become really small. He's also sleeping loads, and only really moving to pee at the bottom of the cage. He has had some more water and all his medicine this evening and tomorrow...

    Not Drinking - gas

I'm really struggling to get my chinchilla to drink. He had suspected gas from Friday, saw the vet on Saturday was prescribed metacam, I supplied infacol. The gas didn't clear up so he went back to the vets today (Mon). I requested an x ray even though the vet thought we could just up his...

    Gas Drops - pee colour?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, after my baby Archie died I made sure to research calcium and not give any treats that are high in it. Since his fresh pee is a normal colour I suppose it's just excess. Thanks again!

    Gas Drops - pee colour?

Does infacol (gas drops) change the colour of their pee? My chinchilla has suspected gas so he has been taking infacol regularly. I've noticed white in his dried pee which of course is usually excess calcium. The colour of his fresh pee is normal, yellow to a bit darker. My other baby...

    Bloat?

I'm still worried, it's nearly 11pm and he has had 3 droppers of gas drops total today and 1 dose of metacam at 10pm. He still has pain and is laying flat so I can't get to his tummy (although from what I felt it doesn't feel hard). He has eaten, had water, and has peed. He's been sleeping...

    Bloat?

I ended up taking him in today at 11am after being up with him all night. He was in a lot of pain, grinding his teeth and crying although he did perk up a lot after I got him gas drops as soon as the shop opened at 6am. The vet felt his tummy and said it felt good so to keep going with the gas...

    Bloat?

An Update: I've had him out for a bit and he's running around while out of his cage and has pooped a good amount. The poops look fine, not worryingly small but smaller than normal. He also ate food that I handed him and had a drink on his own. I've given him probiotics which will hopefully...

    Bloat?

Hi everyone, My chin Freddy (7) has been sitting in the corner of his cage all evening which is very unlike him. I also noticed him stretching a little more than usual but since he was climbing off his shelf each time I can't tell if he's pressing his tummy down. He also hasn't touched his...

    Chinchilla bald spot on tail

I do try and rotate toys, and luckily the place where I buy toys for him have released a bunch of new ones so he'll have some things he's never seen before 😊 And yes, his tail does tend to stick out very often when he sits on that shelf (it's his favourite!). Although I have caught him...

    Chinchilla bald spot on tail

Thanks for replying! Considering its been such a long time since the bald patch first appeared I don't think it's pain. Otherwise surely by now it would have started to affect him in other ways. I really do think it's a habit like we have (I'm guilty of nail biting myself 😅). I track his...

    Chinchilla bald spot on tail

My 6 y/o chinchilla has had a bald patch on his tail for a year and a half now. When I first noticed it I wasn't too concerned as he does have a history of nibbling at his fur on his body (mainly when he was younger). He also went to the vet for a general check up and there were no problems...

    Calcium Surplus Question - Help

Hi! Thanks so much for your reply. I've moved my 6 y/o onto Oxbow Timothy Hay (which he absolutely loves) that I found for a really good price in my local farmshop. I won't be buying Burgess products anymore thanks to your message as well - and I hope that other people will come across this...

    Rest in peace Bazil

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Bazil. As you know I lost my baby just a couple of days ago as well and the pain is just so overwhelming. Rest in peace Bazil.
