    Low body temperature?

Took the chin to the vet today for soft poops and diarrhea and they said she had a lower then normal body temperature, which is pretty concerning. I don't remember what the vet said exactly (it's been such a long day), but she did say that it wasn't critical, but it was concerning. I'm not...

    Vitakraft Chinchilla Cocktail

Agreeing with everyone else, I'd definitely toss them and stick to something healthier for your chin. Some favorites with my girl are rose hips, rose/hibiscus petals, dandelion root, old fashioned oats, or the occasional plain cheerio or wheatie if she feels up to it. You can get the herbs for...

    Ideas for a picky chin

I'm curious, why did they suggest a ping-pong ball? To chew or for them to use to push around and such? I haven't heard of that before, so I'm curious what it was used for! I love how you covered your walls with fleece though, I remember seeing that a while back and making a mental note of it...

    Chinchilla help

You should try leaving the wood in his cage after he chews them down- after my chin eats all the bark off of her twigs each night, she'll set it aside for a while but will usually completely shred the stick during the night. Not all chins will do this obviously, but it might be worth a try! I...

How to stop him from chewing?

To come back on topic, chins will literally chew on everything they can get a hold of like other's have said. I can't give much good advice, but I cover my chins chewing spots with old towels, sheets, or even just cardboard.. but she usually starts eating that as well, which is a downfall from...

    Litter Box use?

When my chin was liter trained in the past, I used one of those big glass cooking pan.. things. I can't remember the name of them for the life of me, but I got one for really cheap at a thrift store to use as my chins potty. For the most part, I really just put the pan in her potty spot (in...

    Barking? Why?

Agreeing with Javachin that your chin might be uncomfortable with dog constantly watching him, I'd definitely consider moving one of them to another area where they don't have contact to see how there behavior plays out. I've heard chins are pretty good travels and adjust well to new...

    Stopped Playing

Agreeing with what everyone else has said; some days my chin has one of those "leave me alone" attitudes where she doesn't want to come out from her fleece tube or even let me cuddle her. She's incredibly demanding with things she wants, so I was very worried when she first started doing that as...

    Leaving our baby alone :(

If you could, I would definitely try to get someone to check up on him at least once while you're away for those few days, but honestly, I think he would probably be alright on his own provides you gave him extra food and water like you said you would. My chin goes through a lot of food and...

    Wood.

Mine will eat the bark then shred the rest of the stick into little pieces. She'll also eat tiny thin sticks whole- I've never thought anything about her doing this, since I would imagine that they occasionally eat some of it anyway either on purpose or while shredding the wood.

    New Chinchilla Help!

I agree with others that it might just be his personality or him just settling into his new home, he might not be comfortable enough yet to bounce around like you're other chin. I've had my chin for four years and she has always been very lazy when she's inside of her cage, she'll easily sleep...

    Fleece Lining Filler

I use bath towels as well, I just fold them down to fit in the pan and wrap my fleece around it since my cage has a slide-in pan. The smell can stay pretty low for about a week with my one chin, but I try to change them at least twice a week to keep everything fresh.

    Awake Chinchilla

Chins are crepuscular, meaning they're mostly awake during dawn and dusk. They also tend to wake up periodically in the day to do what ever they need too, or just to hang out and relax like your little guy is doing. My chin switches from being awake to asleep all day, even during playtime she'll...

    Setting up for a Chin

I definitely agree with this, if shopping elsewhere is an option for you. Online shopping is a great place to find bulk, cheap and safe toys for your chin- I've used the flashing ads at the top of the page more then once to order things for my chin. :P You could also look along the lines of...

    cautious new owner

Agreeing with the others, you may simply not notice him urinating. :P After having my chin for a while, I learned caught on to where she went and her usual "rituals" to it all. It only takes a couple seconds for them to go, so it's totally understandable that you might not have caught on to his...
