    Bars breaking off of cage?

Nope :/ I had a superpet for my first cage too and the same thing happened to me. You really need to get a new cage. Even with the bars up against the wall, it's extremely unsafe. He could easily get strangled trying to squeeze out of there. I recommend a ferret nation. They are much sturdier.

thinking of getting rid of the litter pan

So my chins (in a Ferret Nation) use fleece liners and litter pans with wood shavings. My problem is that one of my chins uses her litter pan half the time, and the other half of the time thinks it's a toy that she should kick all the shavings out of. This makes a mess on the floor and it makes...

    New Chin!

That's very normal when a chin is new to you. They warm up eventually, but you should know that every chin is different and some do not like being held at all. I have two chins, one is very snuggly and likes being held but is more shy; the other is very social and likes being pet in her cage and...

    any safe live plants?

Pretty much the closest you can get to giving them "plant life" in their cage is supplying them with large amounts of timothy hay. Mine go wild over it, so it's pretty much the same thing. And it's really the best possible thing you can feed them.

    Hi

Welcome! And good for you for being the responsible mom and stepping up to take care of the chins! Most parents just dump their kids pets at a rescue or shelter when their kids get bored of them. If you're still using your phone, I don't think you can upload pictures through that. If you do it...

    Weird magnet sounding teeth clacking

Is the teeth grinding a new thing? One of mine grinds her teeth when she is bored or wants attention. It's not cause she's hurt or anything, just something she does. But if this is a very sudden and new thing, you'll want to keep a close eye on her.

New Owner of 4 Year Old Female

My craigslist chin seemed very traumatized at first when we took her home after an hour's drive. Whenever we would walk in the room she would totally freak out and bolt around her cage looking for somewhere to hide. We took it slow, making sure to be very quiet when we were in the room with her...

    Paddington!

This! Just last week I was visiting a local chin rescue when they got an alarming call of a chin owner who was looking for advice. They had been giving their chin fresh veggies all their life and were now dying from bloat. Chins in the wild live in the desert, where everything is dry dry dry...

    chin herder :)

Perabala of Mystery, I am so happy to hear you say that. We've had multiple members on here in the past who are too stubborn to listen to advice on letting chins play with other animals, only to see them post eventually about an accident caused by just that. It's so heartbreaking. Welcome to...

Anyone else struggling to lose weight? Weigh in (no pun intended lol)!

I don't know about My Fitness Pal, but I use Daily Burn Tracker (which is very similar) and when I do a workout, it will automatically adjust my intake to compensate for the calories burned while exercising. You might want to give it a try as a "second opinion." The website is...

First Day using Chins n Hedgies & some questions

Most people use a small baking dish (like for brownies and small cakes) and start off by putting bedding that's already been peed in into the litter pan. That way they learn by the scent that that's where they're supposed to go. Just so you know, I started off with that cage too and you might...

stupidest pet shop in the world??

It's sad, but unfortunately there's not much to be done about it. Sometimes small mom and pop pet stores will listen if you try to tell them about products that are really bad for chins, but usually they just get offended. Big chain stores like Petsmart and Petco can't be argued with though...

    Chins on Tumblr

I've seen maybe one or two blogs that will have a super cute pictures or videos and stick a little bit of educational stuff in there. Like, "This is chinny eating a rosehip! Rosehips are great treats for chin, and so are rolled oats. Raisins and nuts are not safe!" That way the people just...

    Chins on Tumblr

Does anybody here have a Tumblr blog (or other blog) about chinchillas? I was browsing the #chinchilla tags on there today and was disappointed to see that 90% of the stuff on there is bad. Lots of people with pictures of their chins in death balls, mangey fur, and crappy cages full of chewed...

    Vacation?

How long is your vacation? If it's just a weekend, they'll probably be fine as long as they have plenty of food, hay, toys, and a backup water bottle. Longer than two nights, I always have someone come by the house and check on them at least once a day and give more food/water. People always...
