Very, very underweight chinchilla needs to gain weight!

She also has hay and hay cubes in her cage, but she doesn't touch them.

Very, very underweight chinchilla needs to gain weight!

We got this chinchilla in and she was underweight when the previous owner got her and on top of it she went through two pregnancies back to back (and I suspect she had pregnancies before that as well). She's incredibly skinny and has a hunch back. What can I give her to make her gain weight...

Has anyone ever ordered from Coconut king?

That's not bad at all considering the overall price, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't through the roof. Thanks!

Has anyone ever ordered from Coconut king?

Has anyone ever ordered from these guys: http://www.coconutking.com/home.html ? They have a lot of cheap stuff that you can buy in bulk, and I've been looking for vine balls and things like that for cheap because with the rescues I've got a shredding squad that goes though toys in a couple days...

    Purina Rabbit Chow Show?

Yeah, we run a small rescue and we have in young rabbits now that are eating 3/4 of a cup of pellets a day (They are californian mixes, 4 months old and already are the size of our mini rex), and I'll be taking in a few chinchillas in January. I figure with the rabbits (the ones young enough to...

    Purina Rabbit Chow Show?

I'm calling the tractor supply tomorrow and seeing if they have it, if not I looked up the retailers that sell Purina products in Iowa and there are like 50 of them, so if I can't get it there, I have many other places to choose from. That's such a good deal! Chinchy's on Oxbow now, but I...

    50 lbs for 5 chins?

Personally for non-breeding rabbits, I would stick to timothy hay based pellets. Alfalfa pellets are richer and good for young rabbits and breeding does.

    Old hay

I think they also appreciate different varieties of hay, and get bored with one kind after a while. Chinchy always eats more when there's a new variety of hay that he hasn't had in a while. Getting a different kind is like a treat to him.

Is having one chin a crime?

I have one male chinchilla, and had two separately caged females previously. I tried introducing the female chinchillas when they were here, and they wouldn't have any of it. I'm wondering though what you guys think: is it necessary to have more than one chinchilla living together? In your...

    Calling Feisty Ferret Home owners!

Chinchy was in a FF when we got him and we had him in it for 6 months or so and recently got him a QC mansion instead. It's noisy, in my opinion. If the bolts are tightened well then it doesn't make that much noise, but with ours at least, we tightened it, and then a few days later they'd...

    blue cloud chew rock

Is it ok to leave them in the cage all the time? I'm just afraid they'd have too much access to dust and it would make their skin dry out. Otherwise I know Chinchy would love that. He starts "dusting" in his aspen bedding to signal when he wants a dust bath.

Found a new use for the FN142

Just goes to show you how HUGE the FN142 is. How many toddlers do you think it can comfortably house? lol I just got my CN 161 in the mail the other day for my ratties. It's GIANT, and very sturdy. Gotta love Ferret and Critter nations.

Petco Now Housing Animal Shelter Pets?

Our petco has a rescue section (many of them returns from customers), but they also take in rabbits that aren't available for sale in the store, so they accept non-returns as well. They also work with the local humane society and have cats there for adoption. At my Petco at least, they charge...

    Edible hidy-hut?

Yeah, those snak shak thingies aren't safe for any small pet really.

    Foster rabbits

That's a good idea, thanks. I suppose I just call it fostering since it's such a small operation, a few animals at the time (I'd like to think I'm a small-scale rescue). I'll go ahead and have people fill out a form from now on, I'd really love to avoid another awkward email conversation like...
