Hey guys, I have been dealing with giardia for 7 months now. She's been on Panacur, Flagyl, and both at the same time. I'm sanitizing like crazy, and she's on a riser. I'm pretty much going loopy at this point. Is it possible that it's just resistent to the meds? I'm at a loss!

She's had numerous postive fecals back. Just over a month ago she had one, and her count was 1 in 3 highparfield(sp?), and last week she was 1 in 1 highparfield(sp?). She hasn't had any meds since April 3rd, partly because I just want to give the poor girl a break. This has been going on since...

Yeah, she mentioned there's not much in terms of small animals, but if there's really no information I'm not sure if I want Lilo to be the veterinary field's guinea pig. But, on the other hand, I really can't seem to shake giardia with Panacur and Flagyl...

Hey guys, So I'm still battling giardia, and my vet put Lilo's case up on VIN. They came back with the suggestion of using Tinidazole, which is apparently 60% more effective than either Flagyl or Panacur (don't remember which one)...however, she didn't know for sure if there would be any side...

Both of my girls took over 3 weeks to get back into the normal swing of things after their first filing. My one is taking her sweet time...she was filed 2 weeks ago and is still only eating hay and 3g of pellets/day. Hopefully he's just as stubborn as she is... If he had giardia, did you get a...

I weigh my girls food daily when I think something is up. It lets me know whether they eat 20g or 5g so it gives you an idea what's going on :)

Where would I get quaternary ammonium disinfectant? Is there a "brand" name for it that I would recognize?

The vet is calling the lab tomorrow to get them to do a count...so hopefully numbers will be low! I've been using bleach. I bring the entire metal tray up to the shower, rinse it, pour some bleach in and squish it around, let it sit for a few minutes. then scrub it. I rinse it with hot water...

I guess I would be okay with leaving her if I didn't have other chins. I can vaccuum all I want in between playtimes, but if I miss one little poo and the others find it then I have to deal with it all over again, so if possible I am looking to get rid of it.

When she's on meds I don't usually leave her hanging toys up. Sorry, should have clarified that. She gets water from the Brita complete system that filters out giardia and another thing that starts with a c (and is crazy long). I've just asked to have a "riser" made for her tray. My hope is...

I think that depends on who you ask! If you asked me...I've been having problems for 5 months straight, but there are others who seem to never have health problems. All luck of the draw, I guess! Once she gets cleared up I'm sure things will be better :)

If she's going into stasis you have to get food into her. I went through this with Lilo in December, and it is NOT fun. Input = Output, so shove as much food as you can into her to get her intestines moving. If she isn't eating, that could be the problem (or at least part of it). My vet gave me...
