For being such small animals chinchillas have some of the most unique personalities and little quirks (more so then most dogs or cats I've met). What's the funniest thing your chin likes to do?

My Lily-Bean is a collector. She'll take anything she can get her paws on from loose chin toys to business cards, lottery tickets, pen caps, and even an entire book and store them in her hidey house or under the sofa. The running joke with my boyfriend and I is that if we can't find something the first place to look is in Lily's cage. :neener:

She shouldn't be able to get a hold of these kinds of things in the first place. She goes under your sofa? Is she not supervised when she is out of her cage or in a chinchilla-safe room?

The sofa has a high bottom, she runs right under it without having to squeeze. Plus the bottom is sealed so I'd know instantly if she was trying to break through it to get into the sofa. It would take her a long time to actually break through, and I'd stop her before she had the chance. None of the chins have shown an interest, it's just a big cave to them. Someone is always in the room with her and when she steals something she barely has time to run it back to her cage until it gets taken away from her. We'd never just let her keep things (unless it's a chin toy of course).

So yes, between the chin proofing that has been done and the constant supervision it is a safe room.

One of my chins goes under my sofa too. He likes to run around with us. He will run over under an end table until we reach for him then dart under and behind the sofa. He likes to play chase with us. We have him under constant supervision. But it's not hurting him to go behind or under the sofa. He comes right back out. I don't see a problem with letting a chin run around in the living room, especially if you are playing with him. And the same chin takes everything that isn't attached in his cage and puts it in his hidey house and sleeps with it. I pull it out when I get home from work, and then he will get up and pull it back in. It's cute!

My chin likes to steal the water bottle hanger. Every time I go to clean the bottle and refill it she tries to steal it. She will pull it straight through and run away with it. I have the food bowls sitting on the bottom of the cage because she will pull them from the holes they sit in and drop them to the bottom so I just leave them on the bottom now. She is not a good sharer and will steal the bowl from her cage mate if he is eating and she doesn't want him too.

Hemi looooved the water bottle hangers. He would always slip them down and the glass bottle would crash on the floor (even with multiple hangers/coils to hold the bottle up). I dont know how many glass water bottles we went through before I got the hint. Now they've all got Edstrom water bottles WITH the metal protector.

Zumi tried stealing my cell phone once... I was just sitting there on the floor with her, reading something, and I'd set my cell phone next to me. She just hopped right up and was trying to pull it into her cage! hehe :)

Oh, and then there was the time when my boyfriend and I were playing a game on my Playstation 3 while she was out. When she would get near the open TV stand (it has glass doors, but the system overheats if the doors are closed while it's on) we'd shoo her away, but we must have been caught up in the game because suddenly the screen went blank, the disk ejected, and here was Miss Zumi with her front paw on the eject button! LOL! I doubt it was on purpose, but I'm sure she was trying to get our attention.

ChickaChickah stole some bolts and nuts when I was hanging flower pots in his and Charlie's cage... He grabbed them and ran away fast like he was being tricky.

Crash goes from the floor to my desk chair to my keyboard to my computer speakers in <.5 sec. When I let him stay there (while I'm sitting less than 6" away) he just stands next to the speaker with his paw on it like one of those teenagers with a suped-up low rider bragging about "his system". I guess he's listening really, really intently?

He's also a head sitter, and so makes a very wobbly 2 legged chinchilla hat. He won't put all 4 on my head, though; he has to have his front feet tucked up in his belly fur while he's up there. *shrug*

When I'm sitting in the play area with Toby, he likes to jump on my hands/cell phone while i'm texting and just sit there looking at me all the while pooping on my celly.
Same thing goes for a book or anything else I will be holding between two hands, little stinker!
