    Introducing my chins

I feel like I should give some background information. The female was born to me, I own her parents and (hopefully) plan to neuter the father to re-introduce the pair because I don't want any more kits. The male I've had since February. They've been in adjacent cages for most of that time and...

    Introducing my chins

I've got two six month old chinchillas - a female and a male (neutered). I've been reading up on introduction techniques for a long time but I would like to get all the information I can. The male was neutered 6 weeks ago now so I was planning on introducing them tonight or tomorrow. Any...

    Wheel

Yeah the shipping is more than the wheel in most cases :/ Can anyone tell me if this is a good wheel? I've never seen one quite like it before. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/chinchilla-exercise-running-wheel-/161262207594?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Small_Animals&hash=item258bfa026a

    Wheel

I live in the UK and I'm trying to find a flying saucer/exercise wheel for my chinchillas. Does anybody know where I can find one? Or if anybody has a second hand one for sale I'd be very interested. Thanks!

    Neutering a chinchilla

After months of searching for a female companion for my 4 month old girl I've had no luck. I thought I'd found the perfect one but after going to visit today I saw that it was actually a boy. I did really fall for this boy, so I'm now looking into the possibility of getting him neutered as I...

    Behaviour after labour?

Oh, and I'm happy to say the female has stopped the stretching now. Taking the shelves out seem to have confused her though so she's jumping around a bit, but she should calm down soon hopefully.

    Behaviour after labour?

Thanks Dreamlite. I've now separated the male and female and there are no shelves in with the kit and female.

    Behaviour after labour?

Hi everyone. A few months ago I purchased a breeding pair of chinchillas. This morning I came downstairs to see that my girl had given birth to a gorgeous little mosaic kit! This is not her first litter, but it is my first experience of a baby, so I have a few questions. It's been about two...

Looks like some of his fur is missing from his eyes

My chinchilla had watery eyes just like that. I tried lots of things, I rinsed her eyes, got rid of the sawdust from her cage, I got eye drops from the vets, but nothing made any difference. It crossed my mind that it might be Malo (Something her sister suffered from) so I took her to the vets...

    Sore feet

I had another look at her foot quickly - it seemed to be a little red and shiny, and had a very small amount of dried blood. It seems that they're in the healing process. I'll keep an eye on her over the next few weeks and see how it goes. Thank you everybody for your input!

    Sore feet

I can't really get a good picture of her feet without picking her up, which I'm trying to avoid at the moment. They don't seem dry, just a little red. I do have a hammock in the cage that they both use, although not very often. After looking at those bumblefoot pictures I don't think that's...

    Giving a chinchilla medicine

Just gonna chime in with my experience here. A few months ago I noticed one of my girls was pawing at her mouth and dribbling. I took her to my local vets who looked in her mouth with a scope and saw some spurs on her teeth. They put her under and filed them down. After that she seemed to be...

Housing for colony of 4-5 chinchillas?

Have you had a look at John Hopewell's cages? He's got a massive variety, so you might be able to find something you like there.

    Sore feet

Thanks guys :) The cage they're in at the moment is has a steel bottom so they're right on the sawdust. They don't have a wire wheel either, and all their shelves are wooden. I've ordered them a new cage which is arriving on Wednesday from John Hopewell which can be split in two when the time...

    Sore feet

I got a bonded male/female pair of chins a few months ago and they're bonding with me nicely, I'm really happy with their progress. This morning when I fed them I noticed a tiny speck of blood on one of the wooden shelves in their cage. I looked over both of them but couldn't see any obvious...

    UK Owners - cage advice..?

Thank you :) I emailed John Hopewell and he's come back to me saying that having a ramp installed instead would only cost £5 extra so I'm pretty sure I'm going with that. The cage I've settled on (I think!) has 4inch deep trays which hopefully will keep most of the mess within the cage. My...

    UK Owners - cage advice..?

Thanks for your reply. I'm looking to spend no more than £250 really. I'm looking into getting a custom cage from John hopewell - I prefer their degu cages but my chins are quite big so I really doubt they'd fit through the pop hole/shutters that are in them!

    UK Owners - cage advice..?

I'm looking to upgrade my chins' cage to something that can be split in two when needed. Can any UK chin owners recommend a good place to buy cages? I've been looking into John Hopewell cages (I do already have one) but I want to explore all my options. The only other place I've really been...
