    Fleece Liners and the Smell

Well since the only answer anyone seems to have is change the fleece every couple of days or go back to carefresh. So, I guess I already knew my options.

Did she do this on purpose?

Could be a bad habit, could be marking her territory, could be many things, but it isn't because she is mad at you. Animals don't think in terms of getting revenge or being mad about things, those are human emotions that we assign to animals. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can come along...

    Hamsters

And apparently this is an old thread. Oops

    Hamsters

I have hamsters! Eleven of my own and eleven fosters. I have 3 roborovskis, 3 russian dwarfs, and 5 syrians of my own and then all 11 of the the fosters are Syrian hamsters.

    Horribly Aggressive Chin Behavior, HELP

I guess I should also add that I am dealing with a somewhat less serious version of this issue. My foster chinchilla is behaving similarly. He will bite me and hump my arm when I put my hands in his cage but once he is out of his cage he is incredibly sweet. For now I am not pushing him to...

    Fleece Liners and the Smell

And cleaned those cages and I am now officially an itchy laboured breathing mess who is already overloaded on allergy meds. Zyrtec, claratin and benadryl daily. *sigh*

How did your furbabies get their names?

I didn't get to really name any of mine because I adopted most of them and didn't feel like it was fair to change their names. Avalon came with her name which I originally really disliked but it had grown on me in the last 5 or so years and now I love it. Lupin also came with his name, but as he...

How good is your mad girl's aim....?

Mine sat on the edge of a hamster cage and peed on a hamster's face... Tabitha (the hamster) was not pleased.

Chinnie Buddies-Do they work for you?

My foster boy sits on his, drags it around (even into his hammock), and sometimes humps it. Overall I put his chin buddy in the success category for toys I have made.

Have 2 Legged Children, Get Rid of 4 Legged Children...

I try not to judge because I'm not sure I could handle the responsibility of having children and keeping all of my pets. I mean I make the choice not to have children, in part, because of that reality but not everyone makes the same choice. I have a house full of fosters and for the most part I...

I suppose I should Introduce Myself

Hi! I'm a longtime chinchilla owner and have been reading but not posting here for about 6 years. I currently have 3 chinchillas of my own and one foster chinchilla. My one girl is named Avalon and she is about 7 years old, I adopted her when she was 2 years old. I also have a pair of boys...

    Allergen free dust?

I'm nearly to the same level although the hay is worse than the dust for my allergies. I guess I better look into this dust.

    Horribly Aggressive Chin Behavior, HELP

Is he only aggressive when he is in the cage? Or is he also aggressive out of it? I know quite a bit more about hamsters than chinchillas and that sounds like classic cage aggression in hamsters to me but honestly I would have to do more research to know if that applies to chinchillas as well...

    Water bottle

I have grown to love those water bottle recently. They are quite nice and don't drip.

    Fleece Liners and the Smell

Yeah, I can't change fleece liners every day/every other day because the dust and hay set off an allergy attack that knocks me out for the rest of the day and night, and I can't afford that right now for so many reasons. So I guess I will probably have to go back to carefresh for the boys...

    Fleece Liners and the Smell

So I recently (a couple of months ago) bought a couple of ferret nation cages and switched to fleece liners after 6 years of using carefresh for my 3 chinchillas (and currently one foster chinchilla). I have a pair of boys in one of these cages and they smell so freaking awful. They are...

    Chinchilla Spay and Neuter

I'm vaguely concerned about mating through the bars during out of cage time, but I suppose that is such a remote possibility that I shouldn't worry too much. She has always been well supervised during playtime and we chinchilla proofed our basement (well you know as much as possible, she is safe...

    Chinchilla Spay and Neuter

So I currently have one female chinchilla and I will be taking in two male chinchillas that needed rehoming this week. The chinchillas will NOT be living together and will NOT be used for breeding. However, as they will be in the same room I would like to take no chances of potential mating in...
