    Ear infection and meds.

Thanks everyone! I will give my vet a call!

    Ear infection and meds.

The vet thinks bumped her ear against something and it became infected. The vet took a sample swab of Scoops' ear and checked it out under a microscope and noticed a lot of bacteria and mentioned an external ear infection can become an internal which is why she put Scoops on Baytril as well as...

    Ear infection and meds.

My chinchilla has some sort of an ear infection. The vet gave me a cleaning solution, an ointment (EnteDerm), and Baytril. The EnteDerm is making under her ear look a little oily. Should I be concerned about this? Her ear has a few spots that have scabbed over but I am concerned about letting...

kit at rescue missing fingers on front foot

Thanks! I wanted to make sure it wasn't something that lead to issues down the road. She is a super adorable girl.

kit at rescue missing fingers on front foot

I have been looking into another chinchilla and found a local rescue. She has a 4 week old kit that seems to be missing fingers on one of her front feet. The kit seemed high energy and the woman at the rescue said she didn't appear to be in pain. What could have potentially caused this to...

    Not Okay with the Move.

I will have to try the radio! The fleece cover in the cage wont make her cage too warm?

    Not Okay with the Move.

I just wasn't sure if they normally come around after a few weeks. Her being so stressed is breaking my heart. Thanks for the advice. I am ordering her a ton of new wood from Ronda as a "please don't be mad at mommy" peace offering.

    Not Okay with the Move.

I moved into a new house a few weeks ago and have noticed Scoops still doesn't seem super comfortable in her new environment. I tried giving her space, giving her one on one time with me when we are the only ones in the house, tried fun new hanging toys, and am at a loss as to what to try next...

    Check ups

    Thanks for the input everyone!

    Advice, please!

I would hold off for the cage you really want. I waited and saved up for my FN and Scoops and I both love it. A lot of people have found cheaper FNs on Craigslist. I bought mine off of Ferret.com and got a fairly decent price around the holidays so keep an eye there as well!

    Check ups

Other animals go to the vets every so often for a check up. Should chinchillas be going to be vet for check ups or just when there is something happening that requires the care of a vet?

    The Ferret Nation Club

I hope this helps. Shelly (Shooper) made my liners because I am horrible at sewing. She made my entire set like pillow cases to slip right over the plastic. I am attaching photos of the back, front, and inside out. I cannot wait to see how your cage turns out! You do some amazing work!

Did you want a photo of the liner on the shelf or off? I am cleaning my cage today and can snap a photo for you. Are you referring to the half shelves?

Chew sticks for a picky chin?

I don't know about other chins but Scoops loves the poplar and apple sticks I got from Ronda. Have you tried other things like pumice or loofah?

Toys your chin just won't touch

Scoops wants nothing to do with coconut. She threw it out of her cage the first chance she had. Other than that and pumice she loves just about anything.

    The Ferret Nation Club

I am still working on removing the ramps and plan on adding a few more shelves for Scoops to jump around on... I feel like it may be too much though? Shooper made my liners and the matching hammocks and hidey house! She did an amazing job!!

RIP Charlie. Sorry for your loss.

    Ferret nation

I started off using shavings and noticed it was costing me a lot of money. Fleece is more expensive up front but will save you money in the long run and is really easy to spot clean. I switch my fleece liners out about twice a week and wash them with an unscented detergent and baking soda.
