Gradual weight loss with no other symptoms

Thanks Dawn, I had wondered if it could be parasitic. We do use a 3-stage Pur filter as a preventative, but I'm sure it's still a possibility. We'll definitely continue to keep a close eye on both our boys (Kenai's shown no sign of any issue, but they do share playtime space), and will get...

Gradual weight loss with no other symptoms

He'll be coming up on 5 years this summer. He's always been pretty consistent with his weight, usually right around 700-710. We did have to take him to the vet last summer when he suddenly stopped eating (no obvious sign of teeth issues), but they really couldn't find anything. Teeth looked...

Gradual weight loss with no other symptoms

So Koko has been concerning us a bit lately... over the past couple months, he's been gradually losing weight (with significant drops some weeks) - weights are taken around the same time in the evening each time: 2/15/13 - 694 2/23/13 - 675 3/1/13 - 683 3/8/13 - 678 3/15/13 - 675 3/23/13 - 677...

Merry Christmas everyone! What was your chin's favorite present???

Happy holidays everyone! Our boys went absolutely nuts for Melbur's gift boxes - they (and their contents) were almost entirely destroyed by the next morning :))

Hiding, lethargic 4 year old chin

Chins go downhill very quickly and tend to hide ailments - she needs a vet ASAP. If you don't already have a chin-competent vet, I'd recommend Tufts in North Grafton or Angell in Boston (probably about an hour from you either way) - I've had good experiences with the exotics specialists at both...

Is this treat and toy ok?

The toys sound like good choices, but I did want to mention that Kaytee brand food is generally not considered healthy for chins (or any other brand that contains anything other than pure pellets). Good choices are Mazuri, Oxbow, or Purina Rabbit Chow Show.

I made these hay cookies, your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Those look great! The recipe I use is pretty similar to some others mentioned here... I use oat flour with pure pumpkin, a tiny bit of blackstrap molasses, and crushed alfalfa hay, and then make bite-size cookies with micro cookie cutters (they're all about 1cm across). Bake them at low heat...

    Very concerned, please help

My first thought was the same as Dawn's - they're probably just taking a bite and deciding they're not good enough :)) We find a fair number of broken poos in our boys' cages, and I often catch them in the act as well. As long as the consistency of the poo is good, I wouldn't worry.

    Ferret Nation 181 or 182?

While the single should provide enough room for one chin, I'd go for the double if you have the room! We have each of two our boys in his own double (we were hoping they'd end up sharing one, but they decided otherwise), and they love it! Much more room for the Chin Spin/Flying Saucer and all...

    Custom chin art

I would try contacting her through ebay or at the email address on her page here. It's a different email address than the one I have for her, but perhaps it's changed since last year.

    Chinchilla Tantrums?

Our boy Kokomo is suuuuuch a jealous little guy... since he and Kenai decided they hate each other and have to live separately, obviously they can't have playtime together (playtime is in the same room as the cages). If Kenai goes first at playtime, while Koko is waiting, he'll alternate...

    Custom chin art

I actually asked her to for that one, and she did a great job filling it in! I couldn't agree more, I have all of her other chin ACEOs as well :))

    Chinchilla Oil Painting

I absolutely love it! Especially for someone unfamiliar with chins, that is just beautiful!

    Custom chin art

I got these pieces done of our boys last winter, and realized I never posted here! They were done by Irina Garmashova; many of you may already be aware of her work on ebay. They are even more beautiful and detailed in person - the originals are roughly 8"x11", and I think she is still selling...

    SMI Chinchilla Co?

No idea! :)) It was fairly inexpensive and I enjoy collecting chin artwork etc, so I nabbed on it with no real plan, but I'm sure it will end up as something decorative. I messaged the seller and got this response:

    SMI Chinchilla Co?

Hi guys, it's been a while! I just bought an old watch fob on Ebay - a chin, from SMI Chinchilla Co in Reynoldsberg, OH. I couldn't find much on Google other than an acknowledgement in a journal article from '79 on chin reflexes and noise. Anyone familiar with the company who could provide a...

    Teeth issues?

Thanks for checking in! He definitely seems to be on the mend - eating/drinking almost normal amounts on his own, doesn't really seem to be pawing at his mouth anymore, and has put on about 5g/day over the past 3 days. Still working on getting his fur back to normal after the anesthesia though! :))

    Teeth issues?

Thanks guys! He seems to be doing a bit better tonight, so hopefully we're on the right track. And thank you both for the additional info on reading dental xrays!

    Teeth issues?

Hey guys - it's been a while, and I hope you all are well! Unfortunately Kenai has been having some mouth/teeth issues lately, or at least we think. We originally noticed decreased food/water intake, some weight loss, and pawing at his mouth a couple weeks ago (no drooling, no watery eyes...
