    100% Fungus

I checked out the thread for Jimmy and that's great. A few of my chins were 'unfit' for pet stores and destined for snake-food. Also, recently, my buddy with the other chins who works in the wholesale pet trade has also taken another into his herd that was awaiting a similar fate. I'll get...

    100% Fungus

The one on his tube was his old cagemate, Boo. Boot ravaged poor Fungus one night and Fungus had to go to the vet for a dozen stitches and weeks of recovery. See the second photo in this thread. Fungus now lives with Cosmo and they're best friends. Here, they're enjoying a moment of dust...

    100% Fungus

You people are nuts. Why is Fungus the most popular? Is it his black velvetiness or his poor "don't eat me" eyes? Does it matter? You just want your Fungus Fix?

Boo! ... and Cos, Fungus, Snowball and Flubbs.

Why is Fungus the most popular? Is it because of that time he had a brain transplant? Or was it the Darth Fungus?

Boo! ... and Cos, Fungus, Snowball and Flubbs.

So! How you guys been? Someone rattled my cage lately. Figured I'd better check in and say something. Of course, pictures say more than words in the same space, so I had to bring those. I hadn't touched my camera in months and had to charge stuff, find junk and even remember how to work...

    Perplexing Pooping Problem...

Thanks for the responses so far, folks. I don't think it's the hay. I've been feeding them all the same stuff and only Flubbs has the issues. Also, he's had far less hay than any others because of how he reacts to it. I've been feeding a guinea-pig pellet for a while as it was the only one...

    Perplexing Pooping Problem...

I've got a chin, Flubber, who I received as a rescue months ago severely underweight and with severe diarrhea. I took to vet and the vet suspected coccidia and we began a series of meds over a span of many weeks. During, a fecal test found evidence of the aforementioned bug, but not heavy and...

    Question about dry ears

I've had a chin with dry ears also. I used Neutrogena "oil-free ultra-gentle facial moisturizer" based on a suggestion I saw on the old forums and rubbed that into his ears. That, and reduced dusting frequency, did the trick. It took a few weeks with an ear-rub every few days.

    Help me to fix mistakes

Can you get thin, laminate type pine? Something like 1/8th or 1/4th inch pine and wrap that inside the holes? I'm trying to picture what you were describing. Chins will find a way to chew through whatever you present. They're tenacious. As for the killing other people's chins comment, I was...

Getting Nibbler back in his cage...

Yes. Good point, my bad. I've left mine for a moment to grab the phone, etc, when they're in the bathroom, which is pretty darn chinproofed. Opening the door is always done carefully. Otherwise, when they're out playing normally, I chinsit. I find being part of the action is a blast. Better...

decision time: i need your help

I have a FN 142 also and love it. The casters are lockable, too, if you're on a hard surface. I had a sheet metal shop make up deep pans to split it into two cages. I use shavings now over fleece because they absorb smell so much better. I'd think, given the current economic climate, that...

    Funny Chin Nicknames

All: Puffrats; dustbags* (*) If you have a fine scale, weigh your chin before and right after a dust bath. If you wait too long and they have a high PPM rate (poos per minute) it'll skew the results.

    Help me to fix mistakes

If you're thinking of wrapping wire around that shelving unit to make a cage out of, it may be bad, mmmkay? If its melamine over particle board and you hole-saw a buncha portholes so buddy chin can play mario bros all day, he may stop to nom on the super-juicy and awesome-smelling...

Getting Nibbler back in his cage...

Nibbler! Dude! Stay away from the box! Actually, the bathroom is a great place and makes poo harvesting much easier. Be careful opening doors if you leave them to their own devices and, yeah, that toilet-lid thing. I leave the shower curtains open so they can tub-surf as well.

    Safe Treats

Bethany, Your reasonable argument, with links to supportive materials, is the track I wish more people would take with 'hot' issues like this. Obviously, raisins are not an ideal treat. I see raisins much more as a tool than a treat. They get them so rarely. The last time I gave raisins (a...
