I'm sorry, but I don't care what you say about this, you NEED a resume. Without a resume you will be stuck working fast food or retail for the rest of your life. Why not strive for more, and just break down and make a resume? I have been told by many jobs that my resume is amazing (yay, something I am actually good at!), and I would be willing to help you with your first one if you need it. A well written resume has gotten me a few jobs I wasn't really qualified for, just because the resume made me sound spectacular.
 
i'm not looking to work at a big place and i already quit. i am just looking for a job thats it nothing big and that pays alot. i've always been able to get jobs very easily. but i am not looking for a job that i am not qualified for b/c if i get the job and they see that i'm not good at it. than they will get rid of me.

i honestly don't care if i work at a store i'm just looking to make $7.40 an hour I'm not picky and i dont' need much. Dusty isn't looking for me to get a full time job. all thought that would be nice but i honestly don't think that will ever happen. b/c everytime i get a job it goes good for a little while but than my hours seem to go down after a few months. I know i am a little slowely than alot of ppl but the state doesn't see me as disabled they see me as good enough to work so i can't get help from the state I've tried. so i'm on my own.

I think Amanda used to get many more hours and for some reason have reduced her hours. Could be the job is not a good match for her and they are trying to squeeze her out, unfortunately.

Please, please, please, PLEASE do not go into child care with that attitude. It terrifies me someone with that attitude could be babysitting my much loved granddaughter. If you don't love children, do NOT go into childcare.

Oh Carol, I am 100% joking!! I'm sorry, I have a socially retarded sense of humor sometimes.
 
Right now even college graduates are having difficulty finding work and are taking jobs that usually are filled by students. Employers have a huge choice of candidates for each position so those with minimal education or a poor job history, don't stand much chance.
 
I agree with everyone else. I work in healthcare, as a CNA, it's a job that normally, no one wants. But, right now, it's seriously hard to even find a job as a CNA. The money is decent, so a lot of people are taking the CNA course, and finding jobs as CNA's. So, even for me, who has experience, it's difficult to find a job because they can find someone right out of school, and they pay them less than what I make....A resume IS critical to find a decent job. If you're striving for $7.40 an hour Amanda, I'm afraid you're cutting yourself short. I wouldn't expect a million dollars a year without a college degree, but, $7.40 is barely minimum wage....
 
all i want is minimum wages i'm not looking for a high end job i'm just looking for something to get me out of the house.
 
I think people are encouraging you to try a bit harder because a) you have repeatedly said you don't have enough money to even eat, and b) you have talked about wanting to have a baby. Babies are VERY expensive. Now is the time to start saving for one.

Geez, aren't we all? I'm hoping I can become a chocolate tester somewhere and make $75.00 an hour doing it. <rolls eyes>

Try being a little more realistic Amanda. Right now, you take whatever job you can get and you live with it until the economy gets better.
 
Even here in Canada, where the economy isn't quite as bad as the US (close, but not quite as bad off), college graduates are taking jobs in fast food joints just to pay their bills. A friend of mine just graduated from college with a business diploma. She had one of the higher GPAs in her class, and you know what she's doing? Data entry for minimum wage. I was lucky, and managed to snag a good employment at a college and I'm making enough to cover living expenses, food, my pets and put some money in savings as well. I was one of the lucky ones.

Contrary to what you seem to believe, Amanda, having no education is a hindrance to a job seeker. Education on a resume looks good to most employers, even fast food places. The economy now is different than it was 6 months ago, and you won't be able to get a job nearly as easily now. Good luck.
 
I've honestly had a rough time trying to find a job for the past 2 years. I'm CCNA certified and almost finished with my bachelors in computer science. I've built and repaired computers the majority of my life, as well as worked in a small repair shop in my area. I'm just beginning pre-vet and I've worked with rescues and shelters. I can't even get a job cleaning up poo at a vet. The only thing I can find in my area is to work fast food or retail, even with the experience I have. My resume' is outstanding, but with the economy falling into a spiraling hole of death, it's pretty much pointless at the moment to even try. I was told by a recruiter for Cisco at a job fair at my college that degrees are just a piece of paper now - that it's mostly who you know and even experience doesn't really help anymore. Heck, half the jobs I find, I'm told that I'm overqualified, yet I don't get the job. I guess we'll all be stuck flipping burgers at McDonalds. Good luck to you in your job ventures and keep your head up.
 
I can't even find a retail job around here!! All these daggum high school youngins snatchin them up ;)

But, seriously, it's hard for EVERYONE trying to find jobs right now. In my area the only employers desperate for hire is the police department. So much so that they lowered the entrance requirements from a Bachelor's degree to just a high school diploma.

Amanda, if you strive for mediocrity, I'm sure you'll reach you're goal in no time. If you want to just get out of the house, then why not just get a fast food job (1 hour a week or whatever) and then start going back to school? Even if you are slower than some, you can still receive the same education. Ultimately, you'll be out of the house, and you'll be working at a better job since you would be more qualified.
 
I have to agree with the idea of going back to school. Even though school isn't for everyone, theres always something you can benefit from. Find a community college - there are so many skilled trades offered that will probably give you a better chance at a job and you'll at least have some sort of experience instead of wanting just the bare minimums. Cosmetology is interesting, what about that? You may be able to get grants to help you pay for school, and it would be something to devote your time to, which would show employers that you're willing to learn and not just trying to find a job.
 
we don't have the money to go back to school right now and i do not qualify to go to MCTI it's a college for speacil needs ppl. so going to a normal college is out of the Question.
 
it would be worthless to go to college when dusty and i want me to stay at home when we have kids 4-5years from now. so thats why i am ok with just getting any job b/c i won't be staying it that long.

My husband understands your pain completely. He's had his A+ certification and his CCNA for just over 2 years and still works as a Night Auditor for a hotel because he hasn't found anything yet. He does fix/build computers on the side (which he has done for pretty much his whole life, he's just actually certified now). It used to be that anyone in the computer industry could find a job without even looking. Unfortunately that isn't the case anymore.

Hehehe... since I've been out of work I help out at the parties at my son's daycare for all of the holidays. I walk out with a pounding head ache. It does take a special person to do it, and they are all way underpayed.

I get the same thing, only I can't even get a job at McDonalds. Even they don't want me. And god help me it I apply anywhere that googles past employers, my resume hurts me not helps me.

It's really hard out there. I would love minimum wage right now.
 
I'm not sure I understand. You don't have the money right now, yet you give up a job where at least you have SOMETHING coming in? How on earth do you expect to be able to support kids when you are trying to live on just Dusty's salary and barely making it?

Maybe it's just me, but I think I would want to provide my children a better lifestyle than I've had to have myself. Everyone has hard times and has their own set backs (disabilities, finances, etc.), but it's your choice on how you deal with it.
 
we do want to provide a great life to our kids thats why we aren't having any until we get out debt taken care of. i will not be having kids for a while i mean years. i am looking for a job guys don't worry.
