I just adopted my first pair of chins and despite much research I'm still a newbie to these wonderful little guys. I've always used aspen bedding with all the critters I've owned over the years, mostly ratties, but looking on here it seems that alot of people use pine bedding with their chins. If pine bedding is a safe choice I would definitely like to switch over, as it's a much cheaper alternative. That being said, is it absolutely necessary to use specifically small animal pine bedding vs. bulk bagged bedding. I know on first instinct the answer is yes, BUT my local feed store carries "The Beaver" pine shavings for horse stalls that I must say are remarkable. Very uniform shavings, very low, if any dust. I've included a link with their product description to look over. Any opinions would be great!

Aspen is fine for chinchillas as well. You can use either pine (kiln dried) or aspen..I prefer aspen. It doesn't really matter :)) I buy my bedding in the big bulk bags.

The shavings you posted look like they're kiln dried, so they should be alright.

Those shavings are just fine to use. I know many breeders who use the beaver bags. I would love to, I just have anywhere to put it.

Awesome! IMO they seem to have less dust than the aspen bedding, maybe because they're more of a shaving instead of just ground up bits. I gotta get some dewormer for the pony boy so I'll pick up a bag then, thanks!

I use pine shavings from Quality Pine Bedding or the "Beaver Bag". They are THE BEST that I've found. I actually drive almost 2 hours to go and get them too ;-) There is absolutely no dust in the shavings and they're so fluffy. I also like how it spreads out to 9 cubic ft. For the price I get them for, I think $5.64/bag - it's worth it.

i use similar shavings for my chins litter boxes, mine are called TGB granules and the bag size is the same. at 6.50 a bag you cant beat it! i even switched my guinea pig over to them.

I hate you right now. lol I want to pay $5.64 for shavings! I think it may be time to invest in another huge plastic bin and just store it in my shed. At least with the shavings I don't need to have a breathable bin and I can store it in my shed, unlike hay.

I buy this stuff from my feed store http://www.suncoastbedding.com/ I get the mini flakes, cost me $6.50. It's good stuff, no dust, nice a fluffy. But the Beaver bag is a little cheaper and has more in it, I am going to have to look around and see if I can find it locally
