Hi Everyone
One of my chinchillas (Lucky) has had conjunctivitis for a week and has been treated on Tiacil drops 4 times a day. It hasn't helped. Now i've noticed he has droppings with a hole through the middle and a short string of mucus on the end of it. Has anyone had anything like this before in their chinchilla? He's going to the vets in two hours. I couldn't get an appointment with the chin specialist as shes on holiday! and I wanted to get him checked asap so I hope the vet has some chinchilla knowledge. His symptoms are: One sticky eye with hard yellow discharge dry and white discharge runny Holey droppings Droppings covered in see-through mucus He is: 700g weight (hes always been this way so i don't think hes bloated) 3 years of age Thank you anyone who can help! |

Could be from giardia, could be from gas and a intestinal infection, either way not normal.

The mucous on his poop indicates GI troubles, when my chin was going through stasis and the recovery from it her poop was mucouse covered with bubbles ...
Watch this chins food intake and weight carefully And be ready to hand feed if nessesary... Of course make sure you take him to the vet and see what they can find out on him... When eye issues are present with GI issues/eating issues my first thought is teeth check. Fecal test would be a good idea. |

Thanks for all your feedback
The vet just said he's fine and prescribed him some other antibiotics for his eye. I'll have to wait until the chinnie vet gets back |
