Default Wood for making huts?

I was wondering if the common board wood at home depot would be safe for chinchillas.

Looks good to me, it say it's untreated kiln dried pine, which is what you'd want to use.

I prefer to use poplar. Mostly because it doesn’t have all the knot holes. Home Depot has them, though they cost a little more.

Poplar is more expensive initially but it's also harder wood and takes longer for the chin to destroy. Otherwise kd pine/white wood is what you're looking for.
