Hello, I just recently purchased a chinchilla (my very first one) and I was waiting until he was 8 weeks before picking him up and bring him home. However things took a spin for the worst and without going into too much detail, I now have a 5 week old chinchilla male who is eating all on his own. I'm really worried that he could have issues being weaned too early.... H E L P
 
Go the FAQ section and read through the one on how to care for kits. There is a recipe in there for a dry formula that I would add to the cage. It's good that he's eating on his own, but I would still want him to have the milk he needs to help his body grow. Also, be sure he's in a baby safe cage that he can't escape from, and that he is peeing and pooping regularly.
