I was at the grocery store and happened to see a bag of plain pellets, with no specific animal labeled on them. I took a picture of the ingredients and wanted opinions on if you guys think these would be safe to feed my chin?

Well, if there was a bin with a bunch of miscellaneous meat in it, would you eat it? The diet you feed your chin is every bit as important as what you feed yourself, even more so as the chin has no choice and you do. So, no, obviously I would not feed a generic, no name feed, just because it is in the shape of a pellet. There are plenty of chin safe feeds available and that is what you need to look for to keep your chin healthy.

I would stick to well known products formulated specifically for chinchillas. Tradition, Oxbow, Mazuri, etc.

I sell Kline if you are interested. It is the highest quality chin feed available. It's $2.50 lb plus shipping.

Here is the nutrition tag so you can compare.

Looks like No Name brand food from Loblaws. I would never feed anything from them to any of my pets. While your choices in Canada are more limited, Oxbow and Mazuri are easy to find. Stick with either of those.

That's really just an opinion. There are plenty of high quality chin feeds available. It isn't the "best".
Didn't mean to offend.
Yes there are other high quality pellets. Kline is not the only one. I didn't say it was the best. I'm just saying that it is a high quality chin feed. That's all. Sorry if I upset anyone. I just wanted to give an alternative to what she sees in the stores.

I'd just like to point out that the person is in Canada, so that Kline food would be extremely expensive. I'm guessing they were looking/hoping for something cheaper then the pet store foods. Just to calculate, a 5lb bag lasts my 2 a month, so a one month supply would cost over $60 CAD with shipping if mailed though the postal service.

I agree with not feeding random pellets to chinchillas though, chinchillas need a specific diet. As said good brands available in Canada are oxbow and Mazuri, and depending on where in Canada you are another good quality food is Alderpark chinchilla pellets, which is milled in Vancouver and sold by Chinchilla Park Place and Alderbrook Chinchillas.

I didn't see that she was in Canada until you mentioned that. I did look up how much it would cost to ship to Canada. I could ship up to 20 lbs for a flat rate of $42.25. Not cheap but could be done.

Plus the cost of the food, the food alone would cost more then that at the price you quoted. Also I'm assuming that is in US dollars? so it would really be 52.60 CAD, with the current exchange rate, plus the $2.50 US per pound, which is $3.11 CAD, so $62.26 for the food plus the shipping, making 20lb of food really cost $114.86 Canadian total. So I'm sorry, yes you're right it can be done, but not for a reasonable price since it would really end up being about $5.75 a pound in the end for a Canadian.

Hello Mandebear! I personally would reccommend Oxbow Essentials, it smells better, and looks better than a lot of other pellets. You can really tell that it is fresh. It's what I feed all of my five chinchillas. They love it! You can buy it from many online retailers in 5lb, 10lb, and 25lb bags. Here are some links:

I have purchased from all of these sites with great service and great prices. The pet stores like Petsmart and Petco charge way too much for these products. Avoid buying from them if you can. Good luck in your shopping!

Thanks! Finally someone who doesn't throw shade just for asking a simple question. The links are super helpful, as I don't live in a city and the only food brand I can access is All Living Things without driving an hour to the store.
Again, super helpful, thank you!
