Hi all new to this site,
We have a chinny about 18 months to 2 years old, Ebony called Dexter
Yesterday we rescued an 8 month old black velvet chinny called Diego, he was kept in a rats cage from 3 months old and now has the start of bumblefoot :( he was let out his cage at 4 months with his old owners dogs yes dogs 2 of them, and he now has only part of his right ear!!
He barks everytime we go near him, but allows our 3 year old son to stroke him! Ideally we would love dexter and diego to be caged together once diego has settled, they have been out of their cages for 3 hours today together and no fighting or barking from diego only when i had to get him back in his now modified cage, we have removed the wire mesh at the bottom and put some proper chinchilla flooring down, he wasnt cleaned for over a month when we got him!!

He has only ever been fed musli and treats, so he has had some fresh hay and some proper chinny food, i am currently waiting for some new shelves for him as he has nothing in his cage, but we are hoping that in time he will be in with dexter.

But diego is off to the vets tomorrow IF i can get him into the travel box if not he will be seen by our neighbour when he is next home as he is a trainee vet.

Just hoping he will settle down and realise we will not hurt him and he will be able to come out every day for a run around for at least 2 hours

If anyone has any ideas on how we can he him to settle and also help them both to see if they can settle together in one cage would be greatly received

Quarantine is needed whenever a new chin is taken into the home, especially a rescue from questionable circumstances, this chin can carry all kinds of medical issues that can be passed to your existing chin-quarantine is 30 days. Quarantine is also used to allow the new chin to settle in the new home without being harrassed by the owner to meet a new buddy, this chin needs to chill, be observed for eating and drinking and health issues, this can take longer than 30 days when dealing with a traumatized rescue, it can take months. Getting this chin with your old chin is the least of your problems now, both chins since quarantine has been broken need to be watched closely and they need to be kept separate, especially for the new ones psychological issues.

They are both settled in their own cages, so will keep them that way and watch them, diego is at the vets tomorrow to be looked at.
He has started to nibble his food and have some water, he is also doing some good solid poos, as we noticed when we got him home that his poos that were in the cage were squishy
