My bf and I just got a hedgehog. She's 1 year old and the old owner used cedar shaving for her bedding which I know is bad. We changed her cage tonight and used old newspaper ripped up and soon after she started itching. Why? Is she okay? Is she just just getting used to the bedding transition or what?
Please help.
 
I don't have a lot of experience, but I know newspaper is bad for them because the ink get on their skin and it bothers them. Newspaper is a no. I suggest trying Carefresh shavings or fleece.
 
Right, cedar isn't good. I'd stop the newspaper too. Fleece would be the best for her. You can get some fleece remnants (or new fleece) from any fabric store.
