Hi everyone,

I'm trying to see if this has occured to any of your chins and if there's a solution to this mystery.

My white chinchilla's tail is shedding and her tail is getting thinner and thinner. We have no idea what is causing this seeing as nothing has changed. It also seems that it's taken a long while to grow back. Right now there's only baby furs trying to grow.

Any help and guidance will be awesome.

I'm not sure why the tail would shed like that, I would get it checked out by a vet it could be a skin issues. It could be itchy for some reason, or even fur chewing. If you have another chin or any animals that might have gotten a paw in the cage that could explain it too. When tail fur does come out, like a fur slip for example, since it's not fur that normally sheds it can take up to 6 months or more to grow back.
