Whisker chewing

I have twin girl chinchillas that are 1.5 years old. They have been with me for one month. One of them has lovely long whiskers. the other has virtually none as the other one chews them off. It's not aggressive at all and they love each others company. Is there any way to stop the whisker chewing or does it not really affect them? I spoke to the previous owner who said they've always been short and she hadn't noticed why she just assumed they were naturally short. but they're defo being chewed as they've gone from an inch to nothing since I've had them.
