Hi, I'm new to this forum. I joined because since Sunday my chinchilla, a girl named Marshmallow, has been constipated, eating less, and has gone through periods of lethargy. I took her to the vet as soon as I could (they couldn't see her until Monday afternoon) and they took xrays that showed a blockage. However the vet I took her to (the only one in my city willing to see a chin) was not able to do much to help as the facility was not equipped to diagnose what was causing the constipation. She gave me some Oxbow Critical Care which I've been feeding her as well as metaclopramide, which Marshmallow is getting once each morning. On top of this she's had basil, raisins, and pumpkin although she's not fond of it. But still she isn't getting any better. I'm at a loss, anyone with any clue what to do, please help?

Stop the raisins, stop the basil, stop the pumpkin. Push the critical care. How much CC are you feeding her? She also needs vigorous massage on her tummy and baby gas drops (Mylicon). Where are you located? We may be able to help you find a vet who can more properly diagnose what is going on.

That will give you an idea of what you are going to need to do to save your chin.

I give her half a tablespoon 3 times a day. She eats it willingly. I'm in Bismarck ND. There is a vet in Fargo who my vet consulted with over the xray and symptoms, but im not sure if they are a specialist or just slightly more knowledgable than the ones here. I was told I can take her there for bloodwork, but thats a four hour drive that I'm not sure she can handle.

She has still been eating, as long as I offer food. Her energy doesn't seem to have gone down at all, and she's no longer lethargic, that stopped after the first couple days. She's just not pooping like she should. For about the first half of the day she won't poop at all, then by 2-3 in the afternoon she'll start to go but they're small and sticky. I think there might be hair buildup in her colon because sometimes the poops seem to be coming out fuzzy. I've been making sure she's very hydrated and giving her extra time out of the cage to get some exercise. Plus she's still on the metoclopramide. She's not getting any worse, but the problem hasn't been easily fixed either...
