were not happy with her. why would our mum spend all day taking all out ledges away? and dragging a big box filled with metal parts into our room and putting a really big icky metal thing together?

its just mean. she took us out of our home and put us in there. we didnt like it we bit mommy and peed on her when she was moving out things in. We kept trying to escape and she kept catching us. :(

I mean look how big this thing is our old house was much smaller and we miss it. mum keeps telling us that we'll like it. but we don't belive her. Do you think if we keep being bad she'll let us go back?
what do you think we should do?

I have been contemplating adopting a chinchilla from a local rescue for a couple of months and really want to adopt but I just found out my roommate is allergic to a lot of different animals. I know chins are non-allergic but is it worth the risk? I have been wanting to adopt for a while and was really excited to adopt but since finding out about my roommates allergies and am reconsidering. If I got the chin then he would stay in my room most likely with the door closed during the day. Any advice would be appreciated about allergies and people experiences.

Hi Guys
Im a chinnie owner btw and I know hardly anything about hedgehogs! I was wondering if someone could help me?
I have to write an assignment for my exotic animal course on hedgehogs (most of which I got answers from research!) - but im stuck on:

"describing hedgehog behaviours regarding sleep, social nature, and handling"

I've heard they are nocturnal and do not generally like to be handled.
But what is their social nature? Do they interact with humans or not?
(Domestic hedgehogs only)

Thank you :)

Hi Everyone
One of my chinchillas (Lucky) has had conjunctivitis for a week and has been treated on Tiacil drops 4 times a day. It hasn't helped.
Now i've noticed he has droppings with a hole through the middle and a short string of mucus on the end of it.

Has anyone had anything like this before in their chinchilla? He's going to the vets in two hours. I couldn't get an appointment with the chin specialist as shes on holiday! and I wanted to get him checked asap so I hope the vet has some chinchilla knowledge.

His symptoms are:

One sticky eye with hard yellow discharge dry and white discharge runny
Holey droppings
Droppings covered in see-through mucus

He is:

700g weight (hes always been this way so i don't think hes bloated)
3 years of age

Thank you anyone who can help!

I have 3 chins in one cage, my 1yr) younger white female is prgnant, and the other is a older 2 year grey female. I was forced to see if they would get along or choose to get rid of one(had 2 pairs b4), fortunately it is mostly working ok. but since she is pregnant Im assuming this is most of the problem, they hiss and pee @ eachother sometimes. but b4 i knew she was fat from pregnancy and not growth they werent so bad. should i simply seperate them temp and then when kits are old enough put all 3 back together? I have spare cages. the younger was with the male b4 but he has pretty much accepted both.

-cage has plenty of room for when they want to be alone from eachother.

Hiya all!

I've been fairly absent as i've been quite ill. For the last 5 days i've been sleeping on the sofa as I was too weak to climb the stairs to my room.
My flatmate was kind enough to refil Filbert's water and food bowls but unfortunately is no pet inclined enough to give him atention and snuggles.

Last night I finaly started to see improvement and was able to sleep upstairs and am back at work today.

I tried snuggling with Filbert last night a bit but he was having none of it. I think i've lost the bond i was starting to make with him (he's still new to the household) which makes me very very sad but i know that i just have to be patient and start again.

I am going to take him to the vets tomorrow for a general check up and because last night I heard him scratching a fair bit. My question is this: is there anything I couls ask the vet to check on? I mean anything that wouldn't occur to someone such as myself who is a first time 'exotic' pet owner. I was going to ask just for a general checkup and to check him for mites but is there any other questions worth asking/things worth checking?
What should a hedgie checkup entail? Just so that I can be sure that they dont miss anything out and that i'm asking the right questions.

Thanks everyone!
;)

Maybe a weird question, but I always heard (and allready experienced) that chins adapt fast to the habitats of their human co-inhabitants.
They allready seem to know what time I get home from work and when it's approx their time to shine :)

Ofcourse the way and times you handle your chins depends on working/school scheduals, social stuff and other things, i am just wondering how your chins day looks like...

7am: I get up, and they are semi-sleeping then. As soon as they hear some noise they get up to the doors, they get a scratch and a few handfed pellets, and they go back to sleep. I always check the water bottles, hay and pellet supply. I also check the cagedoors about 6 times before leaving :P Me and my GF get ready and off to work.

5pm: we get home from work, chins sleeping like a log

6pm: the household sounds start to wake them up a bit. They start to get active

6:30pm: around this time I give them their dustbath and they clean themselves. This is also the time of the day when I see them eat the most pellets (ofcourse at night they munch away a lot aswell). After about 20-30 mins I remover the bath.

8:00pm: this is usually the time when me and my GF go and sit in front of the cage and speak to them/handle them/give them attention. We usually do this for an hour or so.
Also when we stop with this, I put something nice in their cage to have fun with.
For example: i use a print/gluefree box and together with hay, sticks and sisal rope I make a house/construction they can explore and have fun with. These are always as safe as possible made, but I don't like them to be in it without supervision. Since they are in my living room, I can put the box in at this point and leave it in till i go to bed

12:00am: at this point I go to bed. before doing so I give them another half hour of attention. At this point they are the most active around me. After doing a last water/food check and removed the box, I go to bed.

Ofcourse this isn't a fix scedual, but this is how their regular day looks like.
I am wondering when would be the best time to give them playtime when they get older aswell. Do you think I give them enough attention during the day or would they require more? Usually I sit with them till they go to the upper part of the cage (away from me) and I take this as "enough for now please".

Curious to see how your chins get through the day!

Ok, we bought our new baby Punk 2 days ago, when we got her, her rear end looked funny, and we were informed that her exercise ball got kicked (hard enough to break in two) and but assured she was NOT in it when it happened. She was super timid, and urinated whenever we got near her cage. That was fine, and rather expected, if not annoying on the drive home, haha! She gotten much friendlier, and come up to us and licks our hands etc. She doesn't drink alot, but she eats plenty of her food. She doesn't play like my girlfriend said they should (her dad raised them for 10 years) But we've been letting her out for an hour or so every few hours. we let her out this evening before Natasha had to go to work, and she was alot mellower than normal. She climbed on my arms (I commented she felt VERY hot). Our house is about 65 F all the time... Anyway, After being out of her cage and playing an hour or so ago, she got back into her cage, so my girlfriend went to shut the door, and punk vaulted out of the cage and took off downstairs. I walked down after her (we keep all the door shut down there) and sat on the bottom step, and she had her head and half her front shoulders under the bathroom door. Odd, but I called her over and she bounced up kinda half hearted and licked my fingers (like she does when she wants her chin scratched) so I started scratching her chin and she bit me. I scooped her up (like you are supposed to) and brought her back upstairs and set her in her cage. Since then she's just been laying there. She moves around when you call her, then slumps down again. Now she is making a noise almost identical to a dogs chewie toy. Did she hurt herself under the door? or did the old owner (who was terrified of her..?) hurt her in some way? Natasha and I are incredibly worried about our baby chin, and have no idea what to do (as it is 1am, and we don't have an emergency vet) I am posting a video on youtube of a recording of what she sounds like.
